    Downgrading windows 8 to 7?

Hey, forgive me if this is in the incorrect section. :)

Basically last year in November I bought a laptop with Windows 7, I'm not a huge fan of Windows 8. Recently the laptop died, and with my warranty I'm entitled to a new one. I've requested that it comes with Windows 7, because it's what I'm used too and what I like. However, what they offered me as a replacement was a joke, half the specs of my first purchase. So I defiantly wont be going with that.

    What I purchased:
    DV6-7002AX

    Key Features
    15.6" Screen
    2nd Generation AMD Quad-Core A10-4600M 2.3GHz AMD
    8GB RAM
    1TB HDD
ATI Radeon HD 7730M with 2000MB Graphics memory
    Wi-Fi and BT
    Blu-Ray Optical Drive
    Windows 7 Home Premium

    They offered me:
    Sony VAIO T13
    Screen size - 13.3 in - 1366 x 768
    Processor - i3-2367M Intel Core i3 2367M - 1.4 GHz
    RAM - 4096 Mb
    Hard Drive - 500 GB
Operating System - Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit)
    Optical Drive - None
Graphics - Intel HD Graphics 3000

But basically what I'm really posting here to ask is, instead of me saying it has to be Windows 7 is there a way I can downgrade from Windows 8? (Legally) If there is let me know, cause that way I can be less picky about what I get as a replacement. I'm just the kinda person that thinks, well I originally paid for those specs, so clearly I want those specs as a replacement.

Anyhoo, if you did read this thanks. Let me know :)

You can simply wipe the HDD, or boot with a Windows 7 disc and overwrite the install (it moves previous editions of windows to a folder called Windows.old, not sure if it does that with 8).

Turns out they're just going to fund me the money I paid for my laptop. So the hard part now if choosing a new laptop... -_-

It's a bit trickier to downgrade from W8 to W7 since W8 comes with UEFI rather than the normal BIOS we'd see in any computer. You'll have to disable the UEFI and switch it to CSM so you can actually change on the boot sequence for the CD/USB to boot before the HDD so you can start up the installation of W7 before the W8 starts up.

It might be a tad different from what i'm saying but that is in essence what you need to do. I'm currently learning that in class so I know for a fact at least this is the way you'd have to go to do something like that.

Well you can downgrade but you'd have to have your own version of windows 7, either purchased or acquired through other means.

You'll also have to remove the Windows 8 boot manager. If you really need a boot manager, use GRUB.

Just wipe the HDD, insert Windows 7 disk. Install. It doesn't get any easier than that.

i would recomend that you dont get a laptop, and check into desktops instead.

or my favourite solution get a gaming pc and a cheap old laptop.

you get the best of both worlds without trying to make them collide.
