Hello All,

We recently found that one of our Web sites was exploited to gain unauthorized access to some of our online systems. We instantly took steps to close off this access, to begin a thorough investigation with relevant authorities, internal and external security experts, and to start restoring the integrity of any compromised systems.

During this process, we learned that data were illegally accessed from our account database, including user names, email addresses and encrypted passwords. No personal payment information is stored with Ubisoft, meaning your debit/credit card information was safe from this intrusion.

As a result, we are recommending you to change your password by clicking this link.

Out of an abundance of caution, we also recommend that you change your password on any other Web site or service where you use the same or a similar password.

I hope that was bullshit. No news on what happened? I'd like to hear how something like ubisoft got hacked.

The same as lots of big sites get hacked, no one site is invincible lol.

A Ubisoft website has been hacked exposing customer data including names and encrypted passwords. The company released a statement on Tuesday admitting that an account database has been illegally accessed, and that an investigation had begun. Although no credit card or other payment details are kept on the www.ubi.com site, the publisher of such titles as Assassin's Creed and Far Cry 3 has told users to change their passwords.

Originally it had been reported that the hack originated with Uplay, a digital hub and distribution service for downloadable games. However, the statement claims that Uplay is unaffected. The company is, however, advising members of the service to change their passwords, too.

sucks for ubisoft users I guess. Does anyone know if steam has ever been breached? If so how bad was it?

I might have worded that wrong. I didn't say ubisoft was invincible, I was just wondering if its just independent people or what the deal was specifically with the hackings. I could only read a few lines into each source so I didn't see any details.
