Why is Runescape SO Addictive?

We all like to say it isn't, like "Oh I bot so it doesn't count".. or "I just go on to stake". But either way, whether we like to admit it or not, most of us are hooked. What aspect of this game do you think does it? I've been wondering it for a while and I'm interested to see what you guys have to say about it. Shoot

 

I'm not addicted to RS at all, i used to on WOW tho.

I guess its like any other MMO, you want to be better,higher then others.

Some people are even addicted to botting on RS and you know when you're addicted to botting if you babysit all day long..

Addicted to making money, not rs itself.

 

People are addicted to the notion of progress. Watching numbers go up, exp, then levels, then coins, etc etc is just a natural human lust.

 

I agree with Xier0, However I dont think think its just progress people are addicted to I think Games mixed with technology, it's a very fun combo

That's why normal gameplay is addictive. With regards cheating... I wouldn't say it is; it's just a way to make money.

Those of us that stake/bot do it for cash, not for rs.

But people play and get addicted because of the easy of achievemnt. On real life to become rich you have to work your ass off. On runescape you just sit there and click.

 

Agreed. Since I discovered the black market, Runescape has solely become another source of money. I do play it personally every now and then, but that is only for my Twitch followers. I mainly like to play to quest. For some odd reason I get a rush from it.

 

Basically for me it's just a thing to do daily, level up do some quests and even try to pk even though after playing 4 years of the game, I'm still a noob at pking.

 

I too only go on to stake and sell the money made, but I can't say I don't enjoy it. I think that this is me enjoying a combination of making money outside of the game, but as well as inside. Whether I only enjoy making it inside because it correlates to money outside I'm not sure, but I do enjoy it. Sure it's an easy way to make real life money, but there are a ton of easy ways, why runescape? Because making real life money and lots of it off of a game is such a surreal concept, and is fun to do. I'm just kind of rambling here with no final point, but I think that even if you make real life money off of runescape, it still has an aspect of being addictive.

 

I'd find chewing wood for addicting but hey, I have only had 1 RS account in my life and it's like level 63 lol

I think a lot of people like to be looked up to and respected and so becoming good on the game gives them that satisfaction, considering a huge amount of players are teenagers with no outdoor hobbies xD

Personally I think I was a bit addicted because of the money aspect.

 

I think the majority of people want to be 'the best'. But many who bot/stake/dice do it for money.

 

Used to be for simplicity. I actually managed my time with school and video games like Runescape quite well. When you can do that Runescape is a rewarding game that is a stress killer. It's all about prioritization...luckily for me I learned it and Runescape has been a positive influence and outlet for me.

For me I think this game is very addictive because it includes a lot of stuff that any gamer would want in only one game. I mean you don't have to stick to combat alone but you have million other things to do. Also the people there can also entertain you when you are at any kind of mode.
I try to not really stick to RS but it really is a lot of fun.

 

It's the leveling up. Leveling up is a sign of achievement, and a sign of achievement makes people feel good when playing, so when they can level up more, they do it because it seems fun. Every level reached is like reaching a milestone.

 

I would hardly call it an addiction. I find it hard to load the game with actual intentions of playing. I usually just go on for strictly business. It's more of a source of income than an actual game. I find dealing with sythe users more entertaining then clicking "chop down" on a tree for 8 hours.

 

I agree with a good amount of this.

I used to love coming home from school, and just hopping on and playing with my friends, it was an escape from the stress of school and homework . It acted almost as a motivator for me, the sooner I finished my chores, and school work, the sooner I could play!

As I grew up the game changed, and I just put up with the updates because I thought it had to get worse before it could get better. Too bad the end only got worse and worse, imho.

 

We've played it for so long and it is just like no other game, that we cannot simply stop playing it. We feel as if we were to waste 1,2,3,4,5+ years of time spent for nothing, which no one wants
