Teachers guilty of 'abducting' a 15 year old girl

So I've been this story on the news recently & it's about a teacher that's been found guilty for abducting a 15 year old girl when they went to France together.

I've attached the most recent story from The Sun http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepag...-guilty-abducting-15-year-old-schoolgirl.html

Anyway I want to know your opinions on this? It is actually as bad as the media has made it out to be?

Personlly for me I don't think it's that bad, at 15 you can make your own decisions & choices. You're smart enough to think clearly & choose what you want to do. I think he has used his power in a wrong way. I don't think the charges against him are fair. At 15 I knew exactly what I was doing & if I wanted to leave the country with an older person I could of, as it was MY choice.

So yeah, let me know what you think of this story.

He still technically raped her since she wasn't 18.

One of my ex-girlfriends left home shortly after she turned 16 to live with my old R.E teacher. He had at this point left his teaching job.

It was a big thing in the news where I live, and my old teacher (who is in his 50's) lost his wife, and has two sons. There is no doubt in my mind they were fooling about when she was 15, but there is no proof. She can legally move out and do what she wants.

Needless to say, they are both happily married now, and from what i've seen on Facebook, one of the sons regularly sees them but i've not seen the other pop up ever. She is happy, so I guess that is all that matters. For the record, we had split up a few months prior to these shenanigans.

I'm on the fence with this, as people aged 15 can vary drastically in maturity. The girl I knew was Head Girl, and very mature for her age, hence it worked out in the end. In this case, I don't know the people in question. It was a stupid move to leave at 15, if they had waited they could have been together legally and safe.

Yes. She's nearly 22 now, so it was a while ago, and they're both happily married living in a different county now.

This news is pretty old. Personally I don't think it's super wrong.. She will very soon be legal and at 15 you can make your own decisions.
What I think is wrong is morally the teacher should know not to do it if he's in that line of work (well and the fact it's illegal).

I don't like how people think it's disgusting or whatever when they see a 50 year old man etc with a 16 year old (18 for Americans). It's her choice.

In my opinion, what he did was wrong, but he's being made out to be worse than he was by the media,
But to be honest, whether either of them thought it was acceptable or not makes no difference. By law, and the rules set down when you become a teacher, it wasn't acceptable, and you can't do anything about that. Like if you stole food from a shop because your family were starving, it's still illegal and still therefore an unacceptable action in the eyes of the law.

Everything is always made worse by the media, whether it's a good or bad story, but I still personally believe this is wrong on so many levels and at 15 you are NOT able to make all the right decisions.
He's 30 and she's 15, she is HALF his age.. Why doesn't he date woman more in his age range? The news was right there it was pure "lust" because it just seems he wanted to feel needed/sexy by a younger girl/woman.

    She's 16 now.
My boss met his girlfriend when she'd just turned 16 & he was nearly 30, but that difference from 15-16 makes it legal.
I don't agree with the abducting charges at all, but I can understand the charges of grooming her.

Does no one else think this is wrong beside me?
Why date someone who is still a teenager when you're 30.. They can't work and they probably still live with their parents, depending what age the parent had the child you could almost be the same age as the father.. disgusting if you ask me. I hope he gets jail time for a long time.

This is sad. You can't trust anyone in the modern world, sometimes not even your own.

How much time did he get? Kind of stupid how society punishes for this taboo when there is consent from both. 15 is young though he should have known better.

    He's not been sentenced yet.
Also, in England the age of consent is 16, not 18.

You can't help who you fall for. Theres stuff like this going on all the time, it's only because its become public that it's so frowned upon imo.

What part of age of consent and rape don't you understand? If the age of consent is 16 and she was fucking him at 15 (as the article states), then she was legally raped. There can't be any consent in this scenario.

By which moral values should we dismiss these acts? Just curious.

It may have been illegal if they had sex but it doesn't necessarily make it his fault. Sure, he clearly wanted to have sex with her but no means no. All she had to do was say no but she didn't. She ran off with an older man to a different country, to leave behind stressed and worried parents thinking the worse. I'm just barely 16 and I know entirely that if I run off with a 30-year-old, it's just as much my fault as it is the older person's. A court or parents may not see it that way, but it's not abduction if she goes willingly. It's still considerably rape, but I can't see how that is abduction. Where's her sentence? She broke the law/was technically an accessory to someone breaking the law, knowing full well of the situation.

I merely stated that society makes up laws to discourage taboos even when there is consent. She can consent to anything, I never said it was legal. A seven year old can personally consent to having sex with a pedophile, obviously it doesn't mean the seven year old is in the right state of mind to consent to it though which is why there is a law, "age of consent" which is a legal term completely different than the definition of "consent".
