When the hell did I ever say that having a dog WOULD NOT deter someone from robbing your house? How about next time, sit there for 5 - 6 minutes, actually read what I say, let it sink in. Then your incompetent brain might be able to comprehend what has actually been said.

No sh Sherlock, of course it's not going to help if you're not home.. But obviously the only thing he's worried about is family getting hurt. So yes, growing a set and learning how to defend yourself - not relying on incompetent emergency services (police) to rock up mid break in; because we all know that wont happen.

Next time just don't reply to my posts because I cannot be assed reading your mind boggling jargon.

Also to OP; is your house currently fenced off? What are he security measures like at current time? As stated above by someone, having sensor lights is actually something that will deter a criminal away from your house; because then, they are immediately noticeable by facial recognition (unless wearing a mask) but they can be easily identified; 1 thing a criminal as such hates, being caught.

Having a dog is the best protection imo they are good to have as pets aswell and if your home alone or asleep you would feel a hell of alot safer with a dog guarding your house(then a alarm making noise) but you do have to train your dog not to eat food from anyone but yourself so you dont risk it getting poisoned only ONE person should feed the dog AFTER you have had your meal so the dog knows your his master (dogs originally live in packs), i used to get burgled and since we got 2 dogs (Germen Shepards) have never had a problem again (kind of a waste paying insurance but oh well) i highly recommend German Shepards they are quick learners, loyal and their ears pick up on the smallest of noises.

No need to be a hero. They might have weapons.

What master criminal is going to do small time robberies like this. Having lived in a house that has had things stolen in the past, alot of thieves are opportunist. Big signs such as BEWARE OF THE DOG and such are a decent enough deterrent. We had a fake CCTV system set up outside which did absolutely nothing to deter the criminal.

best thing to do is not call the cops, and fix it yourself. Honest opinion.

Not really, if his family's insurance company covers theft they would have had to call the police otherwise the insurance company wouldn't reimburse their losses without a police report. I don't recommend trying to solve it yourself unless your families willing to take the insurance loss.

Also not sure where op lives but a lot of the suggestions you guys are making could end up with the op getting into future troubles, you guys might think you're a bad ass shooting someone if they break in to your house but over here if the robber is unarmed, you're going to get 25 years in jail for shooting an unarmed robber and if your dog does bite the robber are you willing to drop thousands in potential law suits to keep your dog from getting put down.

Lock the entrance you were robbed from, alarm, gun, dog, etc. Inform neighbors....etc
