How long can this pipe dream last?

I've been playing OSRS for about a month and a half now. I've enjoyed every bit thoroughly. I just logged onto EOC for kicks to see what all the fuss was about. Holy shit - I don't even recognize it. The game has evolved into a whole new style of gameplay that keeps up with modern day MMO's - all with Java. Pretty impressive.

I've been a member of Sythe since 2005, and a member of RuneScape a little bit before that. I am enjoying my time of OSRS, but fear it could come to an end soon. The economy is thriving, and the community is on par with what it was in 2007. But the numbers don't support a future of OSRS. How much longer do you think OSRS will last, and are you enjoying it as you did back in 2007?

 

It's only been two months.

The only thing I see making it not last is posts like this. Negativity man!

If you saw the graph of Runescape as a whole, this is not bad actually. There was no way it was going to retain its original player count, but if you are looking to stake/pk, which most OSRS players are, there are literally 100 fold as many stakers and pkers in OSRS than EoC

 

Everyone is over the nostalgia. I highly doubt the game will continue fourth for more than 6-8 months.

 

It's going to end the same way classic did, full of people botting there main accounts for kicks in shit with 0 Legit players left other then a few Staking too sell gold too the Main Account botters.

It might not even end up like classic tbh seeing and it's only even botted because of the cumminity of Old Players on it

 

I hope it lasts longer, but because of falling numbers jagex may charge more to play

 

Hopefully it will have the opposite effect and force them to open free worlds.

 

Hopefully for awhile. Currently, I'm enjoying the OSRS experience and haven't really gotten bored of it because there's so much to do. I played back then and it was fun then and it's still fun now.

 

Eh, there's exams atm which may contribute to part of it. Hopefully it lasts a few years, though.

 

The community is not the same because almost everyone is smarter, most of the people playing are the ones who quit & have come back so they know all the moneymaking methods & ways to do shit. Compared with how it used to be with loads of noobs/dumbfucks that are easy to lure etc.

 

And I believe a majority of bots were banned a well - correct me if in wrong but one of the j mods said with the release of botwatch no less than 20,000 people were banned..

 

I see the community slowly dwindling again. Yeah OSRS is fun but its dying, there's no commitment by anyone as usual. Same trends. People are bottling and buying gold. Legit is useless because everyone else has the upper hand and no one can appreciate what you've done because they don't have any idea of the work involved. And EOC is building and becoming better although I still have a personal hatred of it. Runescape 3 I think will be a hit and a step forward and I see even the most fed up players choosing that over OSRS.. I think Mark is using OSRS as a filler until RS3 is released.. That's my bit, quote me if you reply directly to my post

Everyone has the doom and gloom stories of 07 dying... but rest assured! Runescape as a whole is circling the drain.

 

the economy is dying if you bot you would know this its dying like eoc very fast I bet by this time next year we will see an economy similar to eoc.
