What is the point of SVU.

A SVU user just scammed 20M and they probably trusted them more because they are SVU but for 5 bucks it's just making the opportunity for the user to scam twice as much. You don't give out the details of the user, so what is actually done if a SVU user scams.

lol, lets be real. Scamming 20M 07 Scape gold and then getting your information past on to the police. The police will do fuck all about it, chances are the two parties are in 2 locations around the world. SVU is pointless and segregates the market.

Listen, some people are fucking stupid fucks. Those people are going to get scammed by smart fucks.

Scam prevention measures are put in place to reduce the number of scams, but you can't get rid of it completely. There is always a flaw in the system, and more prevalent, in human nature. People will rip other users off. We're simply trying to reduce the frequency, amount and motives behind it. The SVU program adds an incentive to donate among other things. As well, it, for once, adds repercussion. The sense that scamming while you have the rank can bring unwanted attention and stress down on oneself. So it's assumed that with the rank, these are, on average, more legitimate members of the trading community. While that may be an accurate guess, there are still many factors that are often wrongly considered.

The issue is when these aforementioned "stupid fucks" see the rank and assume the user trustworthy. Trust should be given on an educated and researched basis and individually. Fun ranks mean nothing, join date means nothing, post count means nothing, donation ranks mean nothing and some staff ranks mean nothing. Everyone can put up a facade and appear to be legitimate in order to get a high rank within this website. It's the internet, you will never know exactly who you're dealing with.

TL;DR:
Take caution to protect yourself. When you no absolutely nothing about someone and the product you're getting, always educate yourself and take the steps needed to ensure you both get what you want.

How do you know they won't? If people break the law (scamming) then its their job to deal with it.

I don't think the police would do anything with just a phone number but you don't know what the other level's of verification will be. Online scamming is still illegal and you can still get in legal trouble for it.

 

I doubt the police are going to go 'even though he's broken the law we're not going to do anything about it' Thats just stupid. Obviously the UK police wouldn't do anything they'd just pass the information on to the local police in the scammers' area. Whether the police in the US will actually follow it up I have no idea, they should though.

 

they will let you file a police report, and that will be the end of it.

 

SVU is awaiting more areas of development, where you can verify different things and get more information that could be crucial. It's only verification stage one at the moment, I'm sure more development will come with time.

 

Police aren't going to do anything if you're scammed for GP, or virtual items.

 

Why don't they add your computers MAC address to a SVU's record so if they scam they ip ban you from sythe.org and you can no longer connect from that PC?

MAC addresses are not available for a website's server. Only the IP pretty much, which can be easily changed.

I agree though, the police won't do anything about a RSGP scam, as much as we'd hope they'd take it serious they'd probably just laugh at you.

I remember Mike created a thread awhile ago about SVU, and a lot of people agreed, information should be given to the scammed victim, not if he/she goes to the police.

 

well,

SVU is only $5 but you must be a $25+ donor to buy it, they can't remove svu unless they feel like refunding the people who already have it. Just because one person with SVU who wasn't trusted to begin with scammed, doesn't mean anything towards the rest of the people who are SVU.

Also sythe can't give out other peoples personal information just because they were scammed, they can give it to the police but not to the actual scam victim, as sythe would become an accessory to harassment if that person decided to use the information provided to harass the scammer (which it's a guarantee they would)

just like P.A doesn't give peoples info to scam victims neither can sythe.

 

But PA are the only ones who get scammed, not the seller.

 

Then what's the point? Police in my area would never waste time and taxpayers' money to investigate it. It will cost more to send police round someone's house than the actual scammed amount itself.

Unless someone has friends in the police or has the scammers' info then SVU is pointless and if anything is just some rank that makes the user look a little more trusted.
