Good Irish gypsy fight

Hahah i've seen these gypsy fight things on tv before as well what is it just a part of their culture or something?

 

So why do they do this? Is it some kind of sport or do they do this in a "challenge" style of life? As in they have a dispute on the street and say I challenge you. Instead of just going nuts on the street they meet somewhere and have a moderated fight?

 

You are pretty much right on, they make sure its a fair fight, you must stay standing and able to defend yourself
