    Is PayPal reliable?

I'm not familiar with paypal and I've had a lot of requests from people to buy my gold via paypal, I've even had someone send me £50 first from multiple paypal accounts but I clicked the cancel button to refund their trade because I think the accounts were stolen (the money didn't even go onto my account, it said it was pending investigation and could take up to 24 hours). Also, the fact people were reluctant to use a middle man was rather suspicious.

The gold is fairly easy to get rid of because there are a lot of trusted gold buyers out there but I'm concerned about selling my account for money directly over paypal more than anything.

I'm just curious if there's a way to make sure that I don't get ripped off, and if there is no way to be 100% secure using paypal, is there a method of payment that is secure?

    Any information is appreciated.

I think it would be easier for you to use player auctions, or sell to trusted users only, paypal has many problems, well atleast for me

The thing is, there are lots of trusted players that buy and sell rsgp, but when those trusted players sell the gp on via paypal like I see so often here, what stops the people they sell the gp to from reversing the payment?

They get personal information from the buyers, I don't really know the details. If they can they prefer not to use paypal though.

Is there anything that I could do that the big gold sellers do in order to protect myself from getting scammed through paypal?

I don't understand how everyone keeps saying paypal is unsafe and most people will charge the money back or reverse it, what's stopping those same people from buying gp off the big gold sellers and backcharging to make mils without paying?

Do big gold sellers have more protection than other people @ paypal?

Large gold dealers have alot more security and fraud protection in place.

I.E, they check the IP the payment was made from, generally call the payee, check that the IP matches to the location of the payee, etc.

Charging back with all those procedures in place is extremely hard. Also, most dealers win disputes. I'm not sure exactly how, feel free to PM R2Pleasent/Busta305 etc.

Since you are dealing in GBP currency, have you looked in to online banking with your bank. You can receive money directly in to your bank from the buyers bank and it is 100 percent safe for you. It beats PayPal by miles, I can help you with it if you want.

Big gold traders have got fraud detection system where they can determine the % that a certain user will charge-back etc. Its an external online service that requires monthly payment which they got integrated into their own website.

I still recommend you to use PlayerAuction when you want to sell your account as PA protects you if you can prove that the sales is authorised by both parties and the goods have been delivered.

Thanks for all the help guys, I really appreciate it.
I read the sticky in another forum about paypal and that helped a lot too.

I might use PA to sell my account now and then Paypal to sell my gp to a trusted buyer.

@Fendle I'll probably trade in $, not many people are willing to offer for my account, let alone in £ :(

Paypal is a pain to be honest I would recommend finding another source if possible mostly like western union or something like that.
