Do you not understand the concept of brothels? A place where the trade is kept clean, regulated, and all customers as well as employees are STD checked before every encounter. Not to mention a condom is required in brothels, which reduces the risk to near nothing.

Not only would legalization and regulation take away the giant trade of human trafficking (which is generally used for sex slavery), it would produce revenue for the state that it's done in.

Your own egotistical views on why people are voting for legalization are ridiculous, who are you to judge if someone wants to take part in ANY act that doesn't harm you in any way what so ever? That's a ridiculous mindset, and it applies to this very situation.

Yeah well the problem is, most of the time, they aren't consenting at all, but forced. The pimp concept is banned where I live, whereas prostitution is allowed in certain areas. But ofcourse it's hard to control.

Would legalizing prostitution really get rid of human trafficking? Or would it just turn into a big, nasty, and technically legal organisation.

Also prostitution has lead to many mass murderers being at large, take Jack the Ripper for instance. Would people like this find 'prey' easier? If it's illegal those people cannot pry on women in this manner. Or what about the opposite, as stated below.

It should be legal and up to you. It is wrong but it's important to give people their decision.

prostitutes go missing all the time and get beaten up all the time.
In fact, making it illegal makes it worse because these women that are out on the streets are largely unsupervised and their clients are truly anonymous.

using jack the ripper as an example is ludicrous, as there there have been serial killers preying on women for as long as history records, regardless of whether prostitution was legal.

That being said, I believe it should be legal because it caters to a lust that is not going away anytime soon. People are going to seek sex for money regardless of whether it is legal or not. However, if it were legal, these women would be able to actually run to the police who are supposed to protect them when they get hurt by their client. As it is, most cops do not really care about what prostitutes have to say.

 

Prostitution is a dangerous racket for both the client and whore, which is why it is illegal to this day.
In the old days it was a very taboo thing and has been outlawed for 100's of years, for the most part, because of how most cultures frown upon prostitution. There is also the influence of religion , and, of course disease.

Modern society is nothing like it was even just 25 years ago, just look at the west and much of Europe, it has NO culture any more, and if it does, it is based heavily around sexuality and glamour.

So, really, times have changed, we have the means to construct a legitimate and secure prostitution trade, we have protection and preventatives from many of the STD's that exist today, and cures for several of them as well.

Though, really, if prostitution was a legitimate trade, it would surely help in controlling the spread of disease. A restaurant would not sell you a molded burger, why would a company that rents out women send you a girl riddled with syphilis.

So, am I for or against?

The chances of some one rapeing cause they can't get any is highly unlikely.

Raptophilia is purely fetish and is most cases, a mental illness.

A rapist doesn't rape a girl thinking about how hot she is or how sexy she is dressed. He is thinking about terrorizing her, the act of breaking some one mentally and physically, and above all, the thrill.
You can give some one with a niche for non consensual sex/rape all the whores they want, and the end of the day they still just wanna see blood, bruises, tears and the shattered look of their victims in the aftermath.

Eliminate all of the negative tailings such as trafficking etc. and I have nothing against it. If two people agree on something I don't see why they shouldn't be able to do it.

 

It's their body they can do what they want with it, though Ofc there's pimps and gangs and the STDs that common hookers might carry, I'd stay away from them

I believe it should be legalized but lots of restrictions.

I don't think it should be a punishable offence for either the prostitute or the client if both are consenting.

Without being crude, its a service. Possibly a bad example but... If you think of a massage therapist, they provide a service that can be pleasurable and can relieve stress. What you do with your body should not be dictated by others just because its a taboo subject.

 

i dont understand why its any of the governments fucking business... They need to legalize it, Organize and manage it. Make them pay taxes and submit to health scans periodically. I know other countries do this so why doesnt america as a whole??? They let certain states why not federally control and regulate it.

Okay, it really hurt to read a lot of the posts in this thread. I'm going to address many posts..

Gangs and human trafficking exist BECAUSE prostitution is illegal. Like many have said in this thread, the very fact that it is against the law creates a black market. You wouldn't catch any STD's either because the act of legalization would also create regulation, like the foods and drugs we trust from the companies we buy them from. Also, what does beer have to do with a prostitute being tight?

They aren't consenting BECAUSE IT IS ILLEGAL, and thus a black market is created. This isn't a hard concept people. I would've figured most, if not everyone here knows why millions are killed over drugs each year. I don't have to say it again.

Yes... Because the prostitute has to meet the client in a location that may not be safe to her knowledge. Making it legal would create an extremely safe environment in which serial killers could not do anything, plus they could go to authorities (and probably the company/Brothel management/whatever) if anything goes wrong - NOT defenselessly hop into a stranger's car in an empty street at 1 A.M.
