So... Only today this is started happening.
I can be on anything.. Chrome/games/word etc and I could be typing and all of sudden I have to click the screen again to continue typing, as if I have minimized and reopened. For full screen games it just goes to the desktop completely... It's very frustrating.

Anyone know what the problem is?

When you type, are you accidentally hitting the touchpad by mistake? I have this problem A LOT on my laptops to which end I just plug an external USB mouse in and use that instead.

Is the touchpad still on when you plug the mouse in?

No, it has 100% nothing to do with the touchpad :)

Maybe you have a program running that 'pops up' with notifications (like Antivirus programs) that take control of what you're typing away from the the text box.

    What Antivirus are you on?

I have Kaspersky, but I've had it on my laptop for a while and it was fine.
I did the msconfig.exe thing and unticked a load of non windows program's and it still does it.

    Kaspersky is good.

When did it start doing this? Or was it from when you first had the laptop?

Are there any buttons on your laptop that could be causing it? Some are shortcut keys.

Hhmmm I think it's my wireless adapter.
I've turned it off and it hasn't done it since.
But I need to find out how to stop it from doing it, otherwise there is no point in actually having it.

So this is definitely caused by a program stealing focus from your current window. I recommend you install a 3rd party task manager such as Process Explorer. It will show you accurately what program has focus etc, so what you can do is just run it, wait to see what process is highlighted as taking focus and work on it from there once you have the process isolated.
