other ways to do business

So...with all the crap going on with skype, yes it's nice to have because you can talk to your customers in a quick fashionable way....but it's way to easy to hack a skype...

So i guess my question is.....what other forms of contact could we start using instead of skype that still can be used, for IM etc.

I'm sure the IRC could be a way and just talk to them via Private message chat or something, but i know i don't do trades over skype and i'm tired of just PMing customers about orders.

Anyone else think we as a community could do something, and maybe put something together?

 

I think it would be nice if they could add some sort of chat room where you can obviously talk to the whole community or just talk in a specific thread or to a specific user with the ability to save chat logs.

If certain mods could then access these chats or access the chat logs they can then determine who is the scammer. (If someone has scammed)

I agree with Castiel, sythe should have some form of quick chat and that way the chatlogs are automatically saved into a DB or something and are easily seen by mods, also with skype chats things can be edited and what not.

I know some sites have this, at the top of their page, it shouldn't be too hard? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Just be safe with skype, secure unadvertised email, keep you contact list small, i always remove people that i dont talk to. Only keep people you trust on your list. Just stay safe with it.

You could try gchat if your customers are willing to create google accounts and talk to you there

 

Yeah that would be a good idea, but i'm more along the lines of trying to get the public to know about these other forms of chat that can be more safe for us as sellers/buyers can keep safe.

Well getting hacked on Skype is so easy because all they do is basically recover 'your' account within the live chat using basic information you have displayed on your profile. All you need to do is set your phone number, email, address, and request some security questions. And when you set this information make sure it's visible to NO ONE. If it's visible all they have to do is tell Skype that info, and it's Skype they deal with 1000's of people a day I assume, if they see your info match up with the ones on the profile, of course there just going to give them your account and move onto the next customer.

 

I wouldn't advice IRC because other sellers might steal your customers in there. I think the safest way is to just put a livechat on your thread. We're using Helponclick ourself, works great!

Another suggestion is getting yourself some Skype credit once. Your account will be more difficult to hi-jack by 'hackers'.

This is pretty stupid, how come nobody acted upon this, then I just called arcus an asshole when he couldve been really hacked. If a hacker really wants you all he can do is make atleast 10 skype accounts, add the victim and when a agent asks them to tell them atleast 5 contacts they have in their list "which I'm sure is included" then you got an answer, now just do a little googlesearch or pretend to be a seller or a buyer to the target, get their details then your good to go.. pretty wasted

is there any kind of FREE live chat that anyone can get? That is safe and cant be hacked to be a drive bye or something?

Based on the amount of feedback, we should get this approved, would save lots of reports in the report section!

 

I've seen many of forums have a facebook like chat within their website. I think given the correct implementation it has good potential.
