    Narrowing down my champion pool

Currently I can play at least 30 if not more champions varying from many roles.
I was considering narrowing it down to just using ~5-6.
Would you think this would be a good idea?

I want to do this so I can fully "master" a champion, although I can play 30 if not more champions doesn't mean I can use them to their full potential. If I learned to master ~5-6 would you think it would be better than not 100% knowing if your using more champions than that to their best?

That's a great idea :) I've set a goal of trying to master around 2-3 champions in each role.

Here's my champion pool that I've been trying to master so far:
    Top - Singed, Malphite
    Mid - Swain,
    AD - Caitlyn, Ezreal
    Support - Taric, Blitzcrank, Alistar
    Jungle - Fiddlesticks, Malphite

    What are yours?

That's the thing I love so many top champions it's hard to decide.

play whatever you can have fun with. I would suggest narrowing and getting good with select champs if you want to get higher rating though. I literally played only one champ Silver -> Plat

I think being flexible is the only way to have fun with the game. It's also the best way to be successful. If you watch pro LCS teams, they usually don't insta-lock every single game; they choose their champions based on their team's composition and the composition of the enemy team.

Also, in terms of "mastering" a champ, what are you expecting of yourself? There is a lot to learn of every champ, but at the same time a lot of skills are inherent across all champions, or at least a group of champs. Tanks are generally not able to 1v1, for example, but assassins can do so with deadly results.

to fully master 30 champions would be impossible (or take years probably) so yes, narrowing down will definitely help. Go with the ones you enjoy/already pretty much mastered, and 5 per role is great, thats plenty.

For me, I mid/jungle, and i only have a select few in these roles:

    Mid - Main Nidalee, TF
    Jungle - Kha'zix, Nasus

i prefer to master few then play more, because then you are better in-games

I'd defiantly narrow down your chocies, I've kinda got mine down to 2 per role (3 roles I play)

    Support: Taric or Nunu
    Jungle: Cho'Gath or Nocturne
    Top: Jayce or Pantheon

I'm defiantly not as good with Jayce & pantheon, as I don't play top as much as Jungle or support,

Cho'Gath Jungle for me is great, quick and setting up ganks are so good.
I'd say my best games are with Cho.

Nocturne is the same, good ganker & quick Jungler. although I'm not as good as cho.

    Onto Support,
Taric is my best, good lane presence, due to his stuns. can heal & has a great passive on his W.
If the ADC has a brain, bot lane is generally a win for me.
Nunu i mix it up with Tank / AP. Same as before, I'm a lot better with Taric than nunu, but Nunu's sustain in lane is amazing.

But yeah, cut it down & master the ones you enjoy playing & you should win about 70-80% of your games, if not more.

Akali generally gets Banned though, plus i find it unlikely that you'll get to pick mid if you're last pick & i don't like the idea of taking top or mid 1st or 2nd pick.

That's not how you win solo q though, unfortunately. LCS is much different. You definitely benefit from a wide knowledge of champions. I have narrowed my favorite champs but that constantly changes. I also know every skill/passive and general cooldowns for them.

You win everything with being flexible. There are some OP champs that fit into almost every teamcomp (*coughrumblecough*), but playing one champ, game after game, gets boring to me.

I do agree that learning a champ's cooldowns, limits, ranges, movespeed, and everything else is very important. I just don't think it's that hard to do with most champs, at least 15-20 champs instead of just 6.

Yea its a good idea that is what I did to get to diamond was play just 4 champions. Then once I got to diamond and understood the mechanics of the game I branched out and had a much better understanding of every champ in the game already.

For ranked games I would narrow it down to 3-4 but make sure to have fun. It is a video game so play whoever you want don't only play 3-5 champions for a long time or the game designed for entertainment will turn very boring.

The thing I find so fun about this game is all the different types of champions. Narrowing down who you play seems like a way to make this game more of a boring grind in my opinion but hey I play more for fun with friends and don't really care about my ranking :p.
