Help me. What do I do...

About me: I am 16 and I live with my mom, my dad and my sister. I am in grade 11 and play games on my computer often. I live in Quebec, in which it is 11 years of grade school(grades 1-11) and then 2 years of cegep then 3 years of university.

I have been on my dads bad side for a long time now, I haven't been doing my homework very often and am getting yelled at or being told to do alot of things. I was playing on my computer when I was supposed to be taking a shower and my dad took my computer and SMASHED it. He threw it on the ground, stomped on the screen and threw my laptop again and completely broke it. A day after i was laying in bed and my dad came and said basically " Why aren't you doing your homework" I didnt say this to his face but it's because he broke my computer which is required for alot/most of my homework. My mom says that i can use her ipad but doing a long project and typing on an ipad is impossible. There is no power point on an ipad and it doesnt seem like they will buy me a new one. SO far i havent talk to my dad and have just been ignoring him.

What should I do? Without my computer and an insufficent ipad i cant do any of my homework which a few pieces are homework. I cant afford a new laptop personally. If cant do my homework i wont pass highschool. There are no library's in the area with computer(s) and i cant take a bus or anything because we dont have anything. My friends use their computer and stuff and cant use theirs, so what do i do? :/

I also have no way of making any money anymore, and have mabye 25-75$ in my name.

 

I've been in your situation, having the computer smashed and such. Although my situation wasn't as bad, although I had to open up the monitor and fix it, there's a massive crack on the side of my case and I had to replace the keyboard. There's also a hole in the wall now.

Why aren't you doing your homework? Are you putting games before work?

I've never been to Quebec. Aren't their computers at school you can use for Lunch time or after school?

 

Well if there are no computers in your school or the library, that probably suggests that you're lying about your inability to do homework without the computer because it's probably not required for the majority of your homework. Just do the homework the old school way and tell your dad thanks for breaking the filthy thing, because from the way you write, you're just asking us how to plot the thing for you to get a new computer.

By the way, think about why your dad did those things, you were just asking for it to be done as I assume you did nothing, got bad grades and that was all due to your playing. Been there, done that, I wish my dad would've done the same.

 

No offense but you should have done your homework. I recommend using school computers now.

i've never done one piece of homework, even coursework and assignments i've left to literally the last minute or even doing them right before class...
i honestly wish i had done them sensibly though...
tell your teacher about the situation anyways? i'm sure they'll sort you out with some work books or smth... ^_^

 

Doesnt you School lend laptop"s out to students thats how it is in my college but you have to pay monthly if you want to keep it for yourself.

 

I really agree with what your dad did, I would of been the same way with my son/daughter if all they where doing was spending their days on the computer playing games instead of doing their homework, this is reality for you. You should try using the school computer as suggested above I know most high schools/colleges will allow you to use the computers during recess/lunch if you're unable to do certain things at home due to lack of equipment.

Maybe if you prove to your dad that you're responsible enough to go without games and do your homework he'll buy you a new one? You should really focus on school though, make time for homework/school and games.

 

Libraries, School computers, Friends house, try to show your dad you've changed a little and that you're taking school serious now. He'll probably then consider buying a new one for you.

 

My mom did this to me because I didn't want to go to a job interview so she picked up my computer tower and tossed it across my bedroom. She felt bad afterwards but only after I explained to her why I didn't want to go and why I felt like she just didn't understand.

Sometimes you just need to talk with your parents for them to understand, when your dad is asking you a question and instead of answering him you might lay there on your bed or sit at your desk and give stupid responses like "I don't know" or "I don't want to" he'll get frustrated and upset. It's understandable to get frustrated when someone isn't pulling their weight around and instead lacking in everything they do. Maybe your father has anger management problems? I don't know, maybe you just need to start doing your work before you fail and have zero success or put yourself far behind.

If you have a feeling, express it? How's anyone going to know why you're not doing your homework if you don't tell anyone anything. Maybe you're just lazy, and don't want to do anything and if that's the case you need to get out of that and start doing what you need to do, not for your dad but for you.

 

Well, tbh talk to your teacher. I'm sure there is a computer somewhere to help you. They wouldn't leave you stranded like that.

 

Go to a library for your homework. You can't really blame your dad if you weren't doing your homework before because you were playing video games and ignoring it, now suddenly you can't play video games and all you want to do is homework?

 

Studies should always come first no matter the situation and i would recommend saving up to buy a new computer if it is that important to you.
