Racist U.S. show?

I called my friend to ask him about homework we had to tommorow and he said he was was watching hardcore pawn.

I watched the show and its based out of Detroit pretty much depicting blacks and whites from Detroit as trashy people.

I then asked my Dad is detroit really that bad and his response was "its a piece of sh**"

Is detroit really that bad? and are any black people offended by this show?

I am curious cause i would imagine if there was a show about whites from Florida acting stupid and trashy id be offended.

 

it just makes good TV when people act stupid, regardless of colour. I've seen the show, I dont think i'd be offended.

it's like saying watching a cop show based in NZ is making all kiwi's out to be criminals, i wouldn't be offended at that xD

 

Given the fact that in not even one's wildest dreams could "pawning" be considered "hardcore" or anything of the caliber, the answer is ambiguous. The show, as said, will beef up the intrigue and the entertainment by putting in retarded people, and it just so happens there's no shortage of black people living in Detroit.

I think the reason it hit you so hard is that one sees an abnormal black-to-white ratio (something appallingly close to 50/50! dear me), and they see that most of the people depicted are fucking retards. They then draw the conclusion that they must be focusing on the black retards because they're not used to seeing whites and blacks in equal parts on television.

Think about it, try to come up with a TV show that's not intentionally about black people where the black-to-white ratio is even CLOSE to being equal. I bet you it'll take you a while, if you come up with one at all

 

I would just be offended if it were out of my state,

but i agree, regardless of color, ethnicity etc. shows that focus on one group always choose the bad eggs smh.

 

and i wish they showed more Whites, Asians and Hispanics, on that show to atleast give it some flavor that the shows owners and its customers are just fucking stupid :/

 

...why? it's just a skin color. and i made a thread on this awhile ago and it's not like the producers of the show only show black people, it's just detroit has a large black population who visit that dude's pawnshop, and they're the ones who get the most rowdy which makes the best tv entertainment

 

Just because you and i see it as just skin color doesnt mean it doesnt offend others, like it seems like this show is built off stereotypes. A black woman with one tooth doing backflips trying to sell a ps3 and starts screaming and has to be escorted out. When the camera goes to her, she starts doing the worm to her car. I know i exaggerated but it seems like its like that.

 

Its obviosly set up, but whats not true about the show? It's a pawnshop off of the 8 mile... It's the ghetto, and its in gang and crackhead central. I'd be pretty confused if an asain or a "normal" white guy all of the sudden came on set. I don't get why people think this kind of shit is racist... :idea:

Detroit's gotten better over the years, but I've been and stayed in Detroit, it's pretty bad in certain spots, like any town or city, but TV shows amplify it, of course.

The show is supposed to make good television, so the people/characters in the show act to put on a show for the camera. Yeah, Detroit is a hellhole, but I don't see how it can be considered offensive. All it does is perpetuate stereotypes

 

Detroit is in the top 5 states in the U.S for the highest population of people infected with aids. It's a shit hole and i wouldn't go their unless i wanted to be stabbed by a hepatitus needle or somthing.

A bunch of these shows are set up or edited to make them appear much worse than they really are I watched about 30 seconds of one about tow truck drivers that was extremely fake looking.The show about buying storage units is especially harmful to people who watch them and spend thousands trying to reproduce what they see.Plus I lost my history and discovery channel because of all these lol.

 

I know what you mean. History discovery and A&E used to be really good channels now its filled with this garbage.
