    IMO, Friends are those which help.
    Just that, any example you can think of is helping, (i.e Not spreading rumors is the same as helping your reputation) I think friends, can be summed up in those words, but of course that is my opinion. Different levels of friends are friends which help more or less.

    A friend is someone you can trust....we all have a lot less friends than we think we do when push comes to shove
