If there is anyway around this (which me and elena are looking into), thn I'd fully support the idea and if we could get sythe permission, I'd push a project for fundraising for maintenance and creation of the bot with the community dev team.

 

going along with what you both said on the first page, if this actually happened, like elena said it's like a job so the creaters of the bot will be paid hourly or something but think about it once you/they spend the time creating the bot, think of the cash flow that will come to you one, for creating the bot (because everyone that works on it should get a percentage from each purchase of the bot) then it would be worth taking the time to write scripts because you would make thousands of dollars from one script if it were written correctly.

It depends. Legal issues would have to be sorted thoroughly. If not it could lead to something happening, similar to what happened to the nexus creators which no one wants. But to avoid legal issues, laws would have to be looked at carefully and worked around, which would take time and I assume money.

 

Me and IDB are looking into the legal part of it now, we will update as soon as we can.

 

I don't think the staff would be able to constantly update and maintain the bot, it would be an ongoing expense tbh and tribot + powerbot have a huge lead over Sythe when it comes to bot programs.

If you really want to blow thousands to constantly keep a bot running then I guess I wouldn't mind a bot on Sythe but I think you guys are underestimating the cost and time involved with maintaining and creating the bot. Even though the staff team may have some good bot writers I don't think they have the time to dedicate to such a large project.

 

I decided to look into the iBot case, and it's all bad news. We cannot risk producing a bot.

If we did get sued eventually, it'd cause drastic measures. Sythe would more than likely be forced to hand out i.p addresses to the government, as well as PayPal giving details of all those who've made PP donations to sythe.org, and on top of all of that, all RS discussion on this site would be forced to stop, causing the site to die out. As well as this, all S.V.U information would have to be handed out, so it's really not worth the risk.

 

I looked into this as well, and have hit nothing but dead ends on the legal side of it. So unless someone has some information about it they can bring forward it is no go.

Yeah, the website and bot developers can't mention Jagex's lawsuit against them.

That means nothing when it comes to forum posts by users, but I understand the problem and possible legal implications anyway.

 

I still don't support this, but I assume it is possible on legal sides. Powerbot has been running for 7 years + ? It is obviously possible to run a bot that Jagex can't do much about. But I am assuming to find these loop holes you would have to have a lawyer to look into a lot of detail about each law which would cost a lot. Or know how Powerbot got past them. (Possibly looking at running the company in a country that Jagex can't get at?) But either way I still don't think it is worth the time, money and effort.

 

I like the idea, but like others have said, the maintenance along with the legal issues that could come with it raises some skepticism. I'd like to see what Sythe has to say about it.

But I'm sure we could do some other community related project similar to "making" a bot?

 

Runescape cheating sections are always packed, sometimes the busiest places on Sythe. Just thought I'd throw that out there...

I like the idea, but know nothing about coding or producing scripts/bots - so the time, maintenance and work involved is unknown to me. If, there are no legal constraints, then something "officially" Sythe would be a good idea.

If not a bot, what about a client with useful tools/features? I know there are users out there with clients on Sythe, but to officially call a client Sythe's could be interesting.

 

I like the client idea better. I remember there was SwiftKit and SwiftSwitch in the old days, which was the client for changing worlds, using IRC chat and doing all the stuff you needed to do while playing, like checking the stats of other players, counting how much you need of that and that for the certain level and so on.. It should also be less costly and less law involving to make a client, while the benefits could be high, depending on the quality of it.

I'm an economist and to me the market looks pretty much filled with the leading bots, entering the market would require too much investment and the profit from it is uncertain, what makes this project really questionable.

If the bot is not nearly of what people expect (and they expect alot) it might just backfire and actually give bad rep to Sythe, instead of good.

Sythe and Govind both seem unreliable. Meaning, they have other commitments which I highly doubt would give them time to work on a Bot . You also need to remember most Bots need constant updates - requiring more time and effort on the above two mentioned.

The idea is good, but it really doesn't seem feasible.

 

What do you think about the Client aspect of things?

 

you take it all too easy. nobody wants to make a client atm because it takes months. and probs most people don't even have the skill to do so.
