Keeping your untrimmed cape possible?

Drop my untrimmed cape, get the second 99 and then pick it up. Would I keep my untrimmed cape this way?

 

I know there's a couple methods of this, but I wouldn't be able to confirm any. Try Google also.

 

I doubt that would work, but its probly worth a try.

It used to work. It's your cape to risk but it used to work.
