    Whey Protein [teenagers]

Is whey protein bad for teenagers? I'm 15 years old and I'm wondering if it'll help me or actually have a negative effect on me. Don't post if you have no experience/knowledge about this :p

    Thanks!

I'm not a nutritionist or a health science student but I've used proteins for a year or so, however I was almost 20 when I started. In my opinion, it really depends on your current diet and health. What your participation in physical activities are. If you're a good enough height ( by that I mean around the average height of 15 year olds of your ethnicity ) AND you work out at the gym or at home regularly then it can be beneficial as your body requires a good amount of protein depending on your physical activity.
If you're a bum (no offence but every teenager is at some point) and don't work out or run as much, I don't think it's very beneficial for you.
Too much protein can be harmful for you too if you're already on a natural healthy diet. I suggest you do that (go on a healthy diet).

Thanks for replying! I actually train boxing and we do a lot of things such as:

    - pushups
    - pullups
    - squats
    - dumbbells
    - running in the track..etc

I train boxing on Friday, Saturday, and Monday. I have no idea what to do at home in the when I don't have boxing training. So should I take protein shakes ONLY if I do my boxing training AND home-working out? Or is it okay for me to take it only if I do boxing?

    Hey mate,
If you regularly do boxing training every week then I'd say there's no harm in trying it as you'll benefit a lot from it but choose the right one as there'es a few different types of whey proteins out there. I'm assuming since you train for boxing, you need to remain agile and strong so you should try find out about a good lean mass gainer. Don't go for the cheap stuff that you get from your local supermarkets as they're most likely not FDA approved and can have chemicals such as (mercury etc) which aren't really good for your health in the long term. The one I used to use was by a company called Balance - Whey 100% protien.

    Here's a link to it - http://www.balancesportsnutrition.c...roduct-Details/_prod_/100-WHEY-PROTEIN-WPCWPI

Most likely go to a bodybuilding shop that also sells protein or a protein shop in general and ask them what you should take. But my guess is they would recommend something similar for boxing training because of its high protein - low carbs ratio and is basically a meal replacer.

I think you can take protein shakes everyday and it should only benefit you assuming you continue working out but do get a second/professional opinion before changing your diet. Also check out this website called www.bodybuilding.com. A lot of good information out there and certified helpers/trainers too.
    Good luck!

I as well boxed at your age. 2010 Golden Gloves @ 152
    2011 Ringside Worlds @ 160 (weighing 152)
    Currently training Mauy Thai.

Regardless of age a supplement is sold as a supplement to a meal. In essence it's like vitamins they are an addition to your diet.

At 15 years of age your probably beginning to produce testosterone, giving your body an uptake on protein would be smart but as for everyone it's varied by your genetics and personal activities.

    Do's-
    Play hard
    Sleep
Eat healthy!!!!!! (I can elaborate more and give you more info later)
    Take in moderation
DRINK WATER!!!! Stay hydrated google has hydration charts of how your piss should look!
    Do NOTS!
Take protein and just sit around hoping to get bigger/stronger
Take too much in one serving- you'll dehydrate your body and the excess will be stored as glycogen (fat)

Please PM me if you want to know more I can direct you into the right places for proper information!
