I think I'm getting DDoS'd.

    I think I'm getting DDoS'd.

    so recently I was doing a service for someone, and he had JAG enabled, I logged in, so he got a mail with my IP. (That's normal when you log on an account with JAG enabled.)
    Since that happened, I'm getting dced every now and then, about 5-10 times a day.
    When this happens, I can't get on internet anymore and I have to restart my laptop before I can acces internet again.

    I'd like to know if this is a real DDoS and what I can do about it.

    Well... This should be in Technology or Help & Requests, but I think I can answer this for you partially.

    Can you say whether you're on a dedicated connection (ie: a private one as opposed to public).

    You're getting dc'ed 5-10 times a day on a laptop - try hardwiring into a network (get an ethernet cable) and see if that fixes the problem. It could just be as simple as connection strength isn't optimal (even if it shows it is). I know that when I'm on my netbook upstairs (and it stays connected to the basement wireless - it will take extensive time to load).

    Also, I have noticed that the wireless at my old college would do what you are explaining. It required a UN/password to sign in and would not even show the network until I "repaired" the connection or restarted the computer - and even then it would kick me off.

    If you look at the modem (if you can) you should be able to see whether it is getting disconnected when you get disconnected. If you are using a cable provider there are a number of reasons why the modem will disconnect - which you will have to contact them about and then complain. I cannot say anything about how dish/satellite internet works.

    In short - it might be possible that he is DDOSing you, but more than likely just a connection error.

    I'm on a private connection. only Me, my dad and my sister can use it.
    I'm like 2 meters away from the modum so it can't be a bad connection, my laptop says great connection and my phone says the same.
    also, when i dc on my laptop, i'm th only one dc'ing, i can still connect via my phone/other laptops.
    A cable wouldn't really be an option, i use my laptop to acces internet everywhere, i can use my desktop if I don't want to move ;)

    Well it's your laptop then, you ain't getting dos'd if others still can connect.

    This. A DDoS would bring down the whole internet for everyone using, so that rules out DDoSing.

    if your modem isnt shutting off then your probably getting ddosd

    your wireless adapter inside your laptop may be going bad. but i dont know too much about that stuff thats just kinda what it sounds like.

    You aren't getting ddosed, if just RESTARTING your laptop is fixing the problem..

    Just change your IP address...even if it isnt ddos...change it couldnt hurt anything

    Well if it was DDoS attack then restarting your laptop would NOT resolve problem as your router/switch is receiving requests, not your laptop (until you use modem)
    As you said above, while you lose internet connection others still can access internet, it eliminates DDoS attacks in this case, if you were getting DDoS'ed not single user would have internet access on your 'cable'.
    I'd suggest re-installing LAN / Ethernet drivers
    If that doesn't help go to service with your laptop
