    Extra memory to iPad

    Hey.

I will probably buy an iPad Mini in the following weeks but I'm afraid 16 gb will be to little memory, so I've been looking for extra memory.

I've been looking at this product http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC531ZM/A/apple-ipad-camera-connection-kit. If I understand right it's a SD card reader.

Will it work to have movies on the SD card and watch them using the iPad?

it is used for transferring, as in you have to have that space free already on the ipad (my understanding) so this would not help you.

Get a google nexus 10 not an ipad mini if you consider the switch.

It also says that it's only for the iPad generation 1-3, will it work with an adapter?

I would also suggest looking up information on a wifi-enabled external hardrive for iPads. not only do they work with all devices enabeld with wifi, they provide extra storage by setting up its own personal wifi network(only for transferring files). you might be able to even stream movies off of them.

I'm a little confused as to why you're looking to spend money to increase capacity externally as opposed to just stepping up and getting the one that is slightly more expensive and double the capacity?

The best you could do is something like what Mitch said. See here for ideas: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4054508?start=0&tstart=0

Instead of spending 150$ more for more memory I rather spend 29$ on a Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit and 20$ on a SD card. Not sure if there is a Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit to iPad Mini though.

Well... You would need the Lightning connector: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD822ZM/A/lightning-to-sd-card-camera-reader

However, that looks like it's just a memory transfer device from SD card to iPad Mini - with a max card support of 32GB - from what it looks like. It doesn't work like an external hard drive (you can't stream/watch videos) off of it. If you're looking for something like that look at what I showed you in the apple forums link. You might want to try the Airplayit HD that the last guy suggests (stream from your desktop at home to your iPad) - considering it's "free".

I think the SD card will work just fine, but I will also look for other products. Thanks :)

    This isn't going to work.

You can only transfer the movies/pictures to your iPad. You can't directly stream from the SD card. So you will need the free space on your iPad otherwise you won't be able to transfer.. You can't transfer from the iPad to the SD card to swap stuff around.

If you want to go with Apple you will have to pay the insane prices for extra memory.. Or you could buy an Android tablet and put in a 64gb sd card.

On 15 may there will be a new Android I/O event and they will most likely anounce a new Google nexus 7 featuring a Full HD display. But it's up to you. Apple is also coming with the iPad mini 2 with a retina display in the next few weeks/months.

Well if I have 32 gb movies on the SD card and 16 gb movies on the iPad Mini I can delete the movies on my iPad Mini and transfer a couple new ones. Thanks :)

How can you be sure about that? I don't want to wait. I will buy the iPad Mini now and sell it. It will probably cover 1/2 of an iPad Mini and 2/3 of an Nexus 7.
