    Sighs..

 I'm two months away from graduating. I've been 18 since December. I'm finally getting my license after much procrastination at the end of the month. I'm enlisted in the U.S Navy as an IT (Information Systems Technician) with Top Secret Clearance, expected to leave September 4th.

Here's my problem: I'm at the point where I have no clue what I want to do. I have no real problem with the Navy - I don't mind being on a boat and taking orders.. I just would prefer not to.

I want to be an entrepreneur and attempt to make something of myself.. but I'm scared that if I do that, I'll risk my great opportunity with the Navy to travel, receive a steady paycheck, and all the benefits that come with it (medical/dental/educational perks).

I'll be spending my (last if I go into the Navy) free summer in Florida with my mom and her boyfriend. He's a daytrader, and does well for himself. He had the same visions as me - to be an entrepreneur.. and it's paid off. He's not a millionaire, but he lives comfortably. He owns his home upright, and is always looking to expand to new horizons to gain profit. He recently purchased a foreclosure for 50k, purchased a crabbing license, and is partners in a landscaping company.

He's also 37 - but what I realized is that he's always trying to dip into new things is because he has to. He can't retire right now. He needs to make money to live and support himself and his two kids.

As for me, I have quite a few hobbies that I honest to God love! I just can't figure out how to turn them into careers, or anything that would really benefit me!

    They are:

    • Sneakers. I love Jordans, Vans, Chucks, etc. So yes, I'm a sneakerhead.
    • Writing.. and reading. I'm always told I'm really good at writing stories, but words don't manage to appear on the screen/paper whenever I sit down to write without having some sort of catalyst (a school assignment, etc.). I love writing, though.
    • Computers/forums. I'm not a programmer, or a graphics designer. So I have no value in the technical aspect of computers.. I just like interacting with people on forums. I like the idea of the structure of forums, and how organized they can be. I like the raw honesty people have on forums - there's no reason to lie to somebody you'll never meet.
    • Business & the Art of Making Money. I love to make money (and spend it), and I like the idea of making money. I'm a real go-getter, and this hobby alone is what drives me to the idea that I'd make a good entrepreneur.. I'm business-driven. I can look at anything as a business.

Anybody, and I mean ANYBODY, that can help me with my little issue.. it is much appreciated. Thank you Sythe community!

If you're afraid totake the risk
then that's not very entrepreneurial, as you'll have to take risks all the time. Maybe you want to be, but maybe you aren't willing to take the risks required to be successful. You can always do both, join the navy until you have some savings and then invest in to an idea/business.

As stated above by rwnrs2, you must take risks and working for a year or 3 in navy and building up some wealth may be a good idea.

With out money to invest or make these big steps in life you will find it hard to get your ideas alive. You have said you love to spend money and for 18 year old that is fine however get your savings skills up and going. Now a book i have read Is rich day poor dad. I loved reading this book and he actually was in the navy and ended up taking the plunge from a secure job into many ventures. Another motioval speaker i suggest you listen to is Brian Tracey, how to make a million

_ If you wish to chat send me a pm on here _

Remember that your only 18, your life is just starting and education and saving imo is the most important things you must focus on.
