You need to have some self control figure out what clothes you "need" and what clothes you "want". Then set boundaries for yourself.

Will hit you like a tonne of bricks when you're self reliant if you don't start getting used to saving and budgeting now.

Set aside money every week for clothes and save the rest of the money, eventually after a few weeks you'll have enough "clothes" money to treat yourself. You'll feel better about it as well because you've earned it.

Have you ever considered a psychological issue for your constant purchase of clothing? I would say most of these types of issues about buying exorbitant amounts of clothing is from some kind of underlying issue. I know multiple people that purchase clothing because it gives them a self-gratifying pleasure, so it improves their self-esteem temporarily from doing so. Also, I've seen people buy lots of clothes because they are not comfortable wearing clothes that their peers or "heroes" wear. I don't want to get all personal with you, but have you ever had a problem with your "image" or "self-esteem" ? If you have, this could be a huge hint to me that its not a problem about self-control as Elena said above, its a confidence issue. Which is NOTHING to be ashamed of, if it is. If its not, I'll still be happy to help you in any way I can Chris.

I've found myself in this same situation many times before. The advice given above is sure to help, but something that I think could also help, is simply to say to yourself ~each time i'm about to buy a piece of clothing, i'll give myself a few seconds to ask the following:

-Do i actually want this item that much?
-What else could i spend this money on?
-Is the clothing worth, how much it's going to cost me?

this should help put it into perspective, and help you avoid the 'impulsive' purchases that we are all prone to at times.

Also think to yourself "I get paid $** an hour and these jeans cost $**, so to pay for these jeans i will have to do ** many hours work"
I find this really helps me to realize what i am wasting my money on
    Hope this helps!

I had this situation aswell, I was jalouse at people wearing new clothes and expensive cloth such as armani,D&G etc. But at the end i regret that i spent so much on cloth with a name on it.

You have to find out that cloth won't make you happy. Instead of buying a pants of 200$ you can buy 10 pants of 20$ and they are also goodlooking.

Let's stick to the point. Don't visit the city to much, you find to much cloth stores and you will get that feeling to buy again. That might help a little bit.

Sorry for my bad english =)

I never have to be honest I think its more of wanting to constantly have new stuff in my wardrobe I just like having new clothing I know its a big issue for myself but I'd rather see myself spending money on clothes then spending money on alcohol/drugs etc. Thanks for all the help everyone!

Everything is good in moderation. I'm sure there are many other people out there with this issue and even if you might feel like you're the only one, you're not. Trust me on this. I'd be willing to be in your area there could be a support group for stuff similar to this if it got worse enough for you. Research "shopaholic", the typical term given to people who constantly shop over anything. My guess is there are multiple stories and step-by-step guides to kick this problem! Hope this can help.

I can say that I have this problem as well. Shopping is really addictive, especially when you're online with nothing to do. How serious is your problem?

If you're in the US try a place like Kohls... They normally have decent styles of clothing as well as very good prices on said items. I catch a lot of PUMA through there, as well as 15-30% off with their card/and Kohls Cash - $10 back for every $50 you spend (although then you have to go back and spend more!).

Also, try places like outlet centers. They have high end names (Armani/Guess/North Face/etc.) for (slightly) lower prices. I can get most of the names you say at decent prices - and wait for heavy sales reductions. It saves you a lot of money and gets you a lot more bang-for-your-buck.

Whoa, that's pretty bad. Spending is okay in moderation, but if you're spending your whole month's salary, that's a problem. :(

I can definitely relate, I really enjoy fashion and having new clothing.
But you need to really think before each purchase:

Do I have something similar to this?
Is the cost proportional to the amount I'm going to wear it? (seasonal? etc)
Can I find a really similar, if not the same item for a cheaper price somewhere else?

I like to spread out my purchases, every few weeks depending on if I see an item I'd like to buy. It's great to have new clothing, but shop in moderation, and think before you buy.

    Good luck!
