Anyone here still listen to vinyl?

I have a few albums on vinyl. I don't have anything to play them on(sadly) anyone know of any decent brands that aren't to expensive? I honestly don't know anything about vinyl players and what makes them good/bad. Any advice would be great.

 

My girlfriend collects vinyl (easy presents ftw) and had a Bush record player till she stepped on it by accident. It seemed to run everything without problems, depending on the quality of the record itself. You'd want to get some decent speakers though.

 

Sadly the vinyl player in my house is currently not functioning correctly because I have forgotten to replace a faulty wire (it's a player from the 80s). But there is a true difference between the quality supplied by a vinyl versus a CD or DVD. with vinyl being superior. Read through this:Vinyl Records and Why You Want Them
If you are familiar with digital music formats (mp3, FLAC, wav, alac, aac, etc...) and the various bit rate of each format, a vinyl is closest to the uncompressed .wav form. See here: Audio File Formats
As far as purchasing a player, I don't know too much since I inherited one from my father. But this should be a good general guide Record Player Buying Guide. I also suggest trying yard sales because I remember an older neighbor of mine selling a $400 turntable for $20 in a fully functional condition, but sadly I was younger and my parents said we already had one

Iv narrowed it down to two. My budget isn't that big so i don't expect them to have the best sound quality but i think one of these two would be great to stat off with.

I think either would be a good investment. The higher priced one includes mp3 encoding so you can convert your vinyls to digital format. IMHO isn't that the opposite of why you are purchasing the turntable in the first place? Unless you want that capability I would say purchase the cheaper one which has good reviews and invest that extra money in a pair of somewhat decent speakers.

I've never bought a vinyl record, because a) they're usually more expensive than the CD or mp3, and b) I don't have a record player. I do have a ton of my dad's records, but again, nothing to play them on :/

 

Your needle has more to do with the sound quality than the player itself, so it doesn't matter too much since you're going to need to upgrade the needle anyways.

Also a receiver and good speakers are really a must when you're pumping vinyl.
