    Getting Back into Graphic Design

It's been a while since I last designed anything, or visited the forums in fact, so I decided to boot up dusty Cinema 4D R12 and Photoshop, and create a signature.

As I said - it's been a while, and so it may be a bit dodgy in some places!

As a first attempt though, I must admit, I'm pretty proud ;)

It's pretty similar to my original signature, I know, but it is quite different really.

Please leave and CnC you have so I can improve my style and get back into designing!

Glad you decided to start up again Danai. The star nebula stock you have would look better blended, set it to overlay over the text. This will make the text look more defined like in your current signature. I like what you did with the lens flare between the a and n but it feels over done with the rest, try using more then one type of lighting. The rest of the effects look clean and provide a nice atmo. Hope to see more from you.

    lol

In addition to what Zippy said, you should look to improve your lighting inside Cinema 4D. Adding fillet caps to the text and applying a material to it (R1 selection) with a shiny specular will provide nice lighting on the edges.

    Thank for your feedback guys!

I've taken advice on board and reworked it a little on Photoshop.

I'm messing around with lighting at the moment, but could get it perfect, so I left it out for now.

Here's what I have so far:

Just gave invocation a crash-course on using Cinema 4D in conjunction with Photoshop and came up with this. What are your opinions on both this and the last signature I gave, and which do you prefer?

PS: I added two for you - the bottom one's slightly less intense :p

Great to hear you started back up mate! The contrast between the white and the blue on the text is way too hard. You want to keep it low and the colors relatively close together. Also, when you're using textures on the text, make sure that they are large enough to cover the area. If you stretch the image it will get pixelated and look bad.

Thanks :) I found that the reason most textures didn't fit on the text is because I work with massive dimensions to be safe. What dimensions do you work with?

When applying a texture I make it fit just over the text, or I move the texture to where i want that specific part of the texture on the text. If you have a texture that's the same design all around, apply it so that the edges are just hanging over the text so you get the highest resolution out of the piece.

    Hope that made sense ;)

You should just work with the same size that you would have on sythe so that when you add details you can know that they are distinguishable. For the best quality, set the Resolution to 300 pixels/inch
