I think I have ADD/ADHD

It's hard for me to concentrate on things; especially when people are making conversation. I think I have ADD and I want to get it checked out, but I'm afraid of what my parents will think - Like, I don't want them thinking I just want adderall for school or something ya know? (I go to college)

Should I straight up say something regardless?

 

There's a difference between ADD / ADHD. You can't really be ADD and ADHD, although one would disagree, they are completely different.

Cases of ADD you can't concentrate, generally can't sit still for too long and get frustrated easily.

ADHD mimics the same as ADD except you're extremely hyper, you can't sdfu, you want to constantly do something exciting, etc.

Do you play video games or enjoy reading?

 

I'd say you should say something. If you do have it, it could be affecting your work and you could be getting lower grades.
You want to maximise your grades in college and you can't do that unless your ADD/ADHD is sorted. However if you don't have ADD/ADHD then there was no harm in checking and you can jus say to your parents "Well I feel better knowing I don't have it and I can concentrate more on my work now that I not worrying about an illness/condition (what ever it's called) I thought I had."

 

Start Toking! I believe I have one of the two and it helps me significantly in school. See if your state has medical cards and check into it. Maybe even speak to a cannibus doctor or your personal doctor and see how they feel about it.

 

I don't even think I have add...I think I'm fucking depressed..

Well there is a completely different feeling from ADD then depression. When your mind wonders what do you think about, and as Shoop asked, do you have anything to be depressed about?

 

Does your mind race and your thoughts wander no matter what you are doing? If yes then you have ADD. If this is a recent developement it could be just stress of something that happened in your life. You probably dont have ADHD if you havent been diagnosed yet as its fairly easy to tell if a young child has it. If you seriously think you have ADD and its affecting you then yeah go talk to a doctor, if you think its just stress take one of the upcoming weekends off and go enjoy yourself.

 

Depression can definitely be confused with ADD/ADHD. Someone who is depressed will have a lot of the symptoms of that disorder.

A lot of us have a little bit of add/adhd in us, the only time one is actually diagnosed as adhd/add, is when their symptoms inpact their life where they are unable to function. Where they cannot sit down without having to jump around. Only severe cases are ever diagnosed and treated with medications.

It most likely is depression in which I would suggest talking to someone about it. If you are worried about your parents, then talk to the school counselor. Im pretty sure a lot of colleges have that kind of support available to their students. Could be nothing, thats why talking to someone is suggested.

I'v lived with this most of my life, and from experience....get it checked out. Don't worry about what your parents think, adhd really messed up my school and career path because I didn't do anything about it till my senior year in high school, and by then i was already fucked.

Adderall REALLY does help, and i'm sure your parents will respect, and understand that it's something you need to take, regardless if it's something everyone tries to get their hands on.

 

It's funny you post that. Because I'm about to create a new thread now that should be ironic to read.

 

I would go get a doctors opinion it is possible that you have it but I wouldn't make a bet on what we say go get a professional opinion.
