Disagree with this ruling

How about this: make it impossible for people to post there Skype/Messenger ect addresses, do this by removing the fields in the profile where users can post that information.
Then make the new rule: Only PM's stating a messaging address can be accepted as a verification, PM's must be within 24 hours of the "scam" date.

 

And the first people abusing this rule have started rolling in. King tijn doesnt have to pay back victims. Really? The guy is a Chinese gold seller, people don't usually ask for pms from them. Complete garbage and typical Chinese gold seller trash not willing to pay back the victims. He's made thousands on sythe and can't reimburse 30 dollars or so. Really want this rule changed back. It's a joke

 

If that is the case, then that is absolutely ludicrous.

 

All signs point to Skype not providing as a business. In fact, if their business operated as they claim to operate it, there would be almost zero risk of your Skype being hacked. Something major happened that they still haven't recovered from, and they aren't fixing it yet. Maybe it's bullshit and maybe not, but if the net result is the same - customer money being lost - the reason doesn't really matter much. People still need to be warned and refunded.

I'm a little bit curious why a warning isn't at the top of every market section right now.

 

Like I said earlier today to just end this whole whats the right thing to do ban this person or this person ect ect, People just need to go back to using msn like was done in the past. Make skype not aloud on Sythe if its that big of a deal. Simple fix to what seems to be a big prob!

I don't see why people are not responsible for their own Skype/MSN/Email/etc Accounts while they are still responsible for their own IP.

If someone is hacked, they should still be responsible for what was scammed - which they may be... but scam reports should not be ignored/locked just because someone's Skype Account was hacked. They should be added to a list of users needing repayment, as when a Staff member posts, "oh.. their Skype is hacked.. sorry.. [exaggerating]", it doesn't mean the user involved should be exempt (as Staff is confirming the Skype Account relation/ownership to the user being reported).

 

If someone would just request a pm that takes 10 seconds it would solve that whole issue.

 

Your also missing the fact that yes we are responsible for our own IP's but we have control of what happens with that we have no control over what's going on with skype right now.

 

We do have control over what's going on with Skype, though.

So basically, the user has to be stupid enough to use the same password over multiple sites to get hacked. Therefore, their OWN breach in security by use/choice of passwords will inevitably result in hacking, resulting in the loss of property from users on Sythe based on someone's "trust rating".

Sending private messages before trades have been spoken about for years and will continue to be spoken about. Their is never going to be a direct solution to this unless every user is informed (which will reduce scamming greatly, but won't rid of it completely).

 

Elena, Remember there are people who fall for imposters. Now they need to watch out for hacked accounts. Not everyone who is on or comes to sythe is familiar with our trading practices. They shouldn't come to this community, get scammed by someones hacked skype then get told to fuck off.

 

We actually don't have any control over it. and my passwords were not even close to the same I was still hacked.

 

I agree with this 100% do people not feel guilty that people get scammed on the back of there skype accounts?

Would not ease my guilt if i did not have to pay on a technicality.

It is our accounts we should be responsible for them.

And i do not use skype for this very reason.

 

I would agree with you if the skypes hackings were in our control but they aren't. It is not hard to ask for a private message and should be common sense.

 

Alright so now I download a vpn, scam a bunch of kids who I've done trades with before so they don't request a pm, say i was hacked = profit?

 

So you want to tell me it is common sense for a first time user on this site to assume that every person with 10 plus pages of vouches are hacked?

No way is a kid 13-15 selling the last of his RSGP cause his giving up playing gonna assume that.

The only thing this rule harms is the future of the site because they will get scammed and leave.

It is your fault for using an unsafe platform. As soon as you saw that all these hackings were occurring, and yes Elena there were several hackings prior to yours, Jacks, etc, then you should have discontinued use of it. It is your responsibility to use a safe medium and if you saw that Skype had security flaws you should have switched to MSN, ICQ, IRC, Google Chat, Facebook Chat, and many of the other chat platforms that aren't compromised by such security flaws.

 

Is it not true that you guys harass 3/4 the people who join anyways and they scam and leave anyways so what is the difference. Most people have in their terms of service or somewhere on them to request a pm when trading.

 

Now your argument isn't even relevant to the topic and it's getting out of hand. It isn't true that people harass 3/4 of the people that join, and it isn't true that they're just going to scam and leave. You're grasping at straws now to avoid being held responsible.

I am not sure why the rule is getting changed now after all the precedents have been set in the past.
