Suggestion for SVU's

My suggestion is something that could be implemented for users that have already passed the requirements for sythe verification. If an unrecognized IP was to log into a user’s account, a text massage or a verified phone call would be sent to the phone number that they have already provided. The pin number that was sent would need to be entered in order to successfully log back into the account. This simple system could be implemented easily and do a lot in terms of keeping accounts from being hacked. It would be able to be toggled on/off in the user center. If the texting/phone calls would be too expensive a $3-5 monthly fee for this service (or a one-time fee/have it for higher donors) could be required. I hope this suggestion makes sense, if you have any questions please feel free to let me know and I can clarify.

I've already told you this, but I thought I might as well post here. I support this suggestion 100%. It wouldn't be hard to implement considering we already have a texting/call system in place and already have a usercenter/sythe verification system in place. It adds an extra level of account security and can be toggled on/off for people that don't like the suggestion. Thanks for posting!

 

This is considered as an unauthorized login as the IP differs from the owner's IP.
But at the same time, if someone has dynamic IP it'll be hard because the IP keeps changing everytime the router is resetted etc. Also, someone had suggested http://www.sythe.org/suggestions/1550317-locking-sythe-account-ip.html

It got denied by FireZ right away.

 

I understand that point but I feel like it would do more good then bad.

Clearly you didn't actually read the suggestion. It would be able to be toggled on/off.

As someone who uses Sythe from my mobile phone often, as well as being someone with multiple "home addresses" (Divorced parents and I'm in college so that's three different home locations), this addition would be fairly annoying.

If you can toggle it, I'm all for it.

This would be pretty annoying to people with Dynamic IPs... Facebook offers a security system very similar to this.

 

I did read the suggestion if not I wouldn't have popped the Dynamic IP issue Just that I miss the toggling part.
But again, I kind of like the idea but at the same time, I'm a bit worried for those who has Dynamic IPs.

 

If there's an option to disable this "security feature" AND not having to pay a fee when disabling this, I support the suggestion.


However, we must think on people with Dynamic IP (I'm one of them). The main purpose of being dynamic is improving the security, since you get a new IP each time you connect to your provider. Forcing us to pay for a Sythe security feature we don't care about would be ridiculous, so yeah, I support this incase we can turn it off.

Most likely it'll come down to $. The automated system in place is just 1 text/call? Having a dynamic IP might require dozens of texts which really adds up to way more than the $5 you paid.

 

Well, If there is a monthly subscription if you want the feature I think the money would more then even itself out.

That's a good point. I have a dynamic IP and it really only changes every couple of weeks when I'm having internet problems and reset the router. Anyway, this system could easily be done with email verification or something instead of texts.

 

If implemented, this is something that users would OPT IN for, not OPT OUT OF. So those of you saying "It would be annoying, no support, etc" need to stop spamming.

 

^ Like I said in OP, that There would be an on and off switch so if you didn't want the feature you didn't have to have it.

 

I'd support this. But $... It cost us $5 to 'cover the SMS fees' for the SVU...
