So, I'm 18 and I've been working as a CAD Technician for nearly a year now.
The job its self is easy, and not very stimulating, but it isnt what I aspire to do.
I would like a job where I get to travel around a bit, see the world, or atleast something where i am actually being stimulated (If anyone thats used AutoCAD will know its easy and very repetitive)

I'm just wondering, should I quit my job and go traveling? I do have thing I still have to pay for, but im not too worried about that.
Or do I stay in a stable job which isnt a bad pay for my age.

 

I'd say stay at your job for a while longer. You're young and you have time. Travelling may be fun and quite the experience but you never know what could happen financially. You could also see work as a way to save more money for more travels when you get around to it.

I, personally, want to backpack through Europe and see some of Asia. All the same, I want to become a surgeon which takes a lot of both work and time. I'll get around to it eventually, of course, but college and medical school come first.

 

You're 18 dude. Stay with your current job. Collect as much as you could before deciding any further.

It is easy to travel around when you have the money in hand. If you don't have any stable job at the start, you won't have that money to start travel.

So I suggest, stay with it. You still have a long way to go.

 

If you're 18 and looking to work/travel at the same time, why not try and join the crew of a ship? They move around a lot and if you've had enough of a particular route, you can apply to switch ships to another route. The pay is a pittance, but since the people who go on cruises are typically quite well off, the tips they give are quite decent. You'd be able to explore places you've never seen before and you'll be making money at the same time. After you've gotten tired of it, you can search for something more solid and permanent, but these are the golden years of your life. Why waste it, stuck at a boring job?

 

Just adding on to that, you could also be a flight attendant?

I thought about that too. And then I read this. Seems that the life of a flight attendant is pretty brutal, when you think about it.

 

Well you could always go back to school and take an applied skill Or go to school and take surveying, or become a electronics technologist or technician. They are way more hands on than engineers.

 

Your young, Stay with your current job for now and then see where lifes journeys take you.

 

You are only 18 i'd keep doing it for a few more years, and if you REALLY think that traveling is your thing and want to see the world, than do what your passionate about.

I would much rather do what I would enjoy, than going to work and just not feeling right about it, ya know?

 

Best advice would be have some backup money with your job now , save up in case your new job you want doesn't really work out well, just so you have something to fall back on
