Some get infected by downloads they think are clean. MSN has a lot of security loopholes which allow their accounts to get hacked, if someone knows how to exploit them.

Actually, it's always your fault. You download bad files with no antivirus = your fault. You choose Hotmail, an email provider with lots of bugs, your fault. You are not careful when you give access for someone to TeamViewer you, your fault.

I know of a couple of people who were hacked due to simply having identical hotmail and Sythe passwords, etc. Most of the time it can be combatted by just being sensible and taking all the precautions you can with password strength.

Obviously most breaches of security come with downloads, phishers etc. and not much can be done about that once you've clicked it or entered your details.

tl;dr just be sensible and over-cautious and all should be good
