Is Online Western Union Payment really irreversible?

I had several problems when it comes to paypal due to a filed dispute or unauthorized claim by the scammer. However, I came across a thread that claims that Western Union payment is irreversible. Once the payment has been sent, it can never be cancelled anymore by the sender. Is this really true?

 

Just go pick up the payment from the store. After you have the cash in hand, it can't be reversed.

 

Exactly. If people pay via credit card, sure, their credit card company can dispute the payment. However if it's already been picked up, the money comes from Western Union not the receiver. NOTE: If the receiver decides to load the payment onto his WU card instead of get cash, the money can be deducted/chargedbacked from his WU gold card.

Thanks for the responses but here's another question,

If it happens that I managed to picked up the cash before the scammer filed a dispute on his or her credit card company, will the Western Union charge me back the next time that I will come to use their service again?

 

I really doubt it. Your best bet is to contact their support with that question though. Just ask if you pick up cash from a sender and the sender later tries to open up a credit card dispute, if you will be punished/held liable/prevented from using the service.

Most people don't even brother trying to chargeback with WU. They're pretty confident with their payments.

An Update:

Credit Card Agreement with the Western Union:

1. Using a credit card to pay thru Western Union is not covered under credit card fraud.

2. Why? Because its a cash advance.

3. Credit card disputes can only be done between yourself and a merchant account.

4. Western Union is not the Merchant only the transfer authority.

5. If there is no account to debit in a dispute, then you are not protected?


With this, I feel safe and confident as an honest and reputable seller using Western Union as a method of accepting payment.

Western Union could end up black listing you if you keep getting charge backs but I have never heard of any scams via WU reversals on Sythe.

 

Credit Card fraud protection is not offered when using Western Union.

Also people don't really use WU unless it is big trades due to the fee's

 

Fees aren't all that much. Dependant on where you're sending from and to whom. If I send to the USA, fees are a killer, however sending to Europe, China, Asia and most other countries has a minimal fee of $5. I'm from Australia.
