    Why buy a Mac?

What's so good about Macs? All I see is people complaining about them, yet people still buy them.. Why?

    Why buy a Mac?

Part of it is the desire to have something that they can brag about. "Oh hey I have a mac, that must mean I'm rich right?" Same with all the iPhones, etc. (in my opinion) It's part of a trend.

Not to mention the "ease of use" that comes with it. The Mac's user-interface is very simple to understand and just get on and go. With many people, they don't want the hassles (or viruses) that are common on Windows computers - you have to remember most people are computer-illiterate.

Since it's nerdy to use a custom-built desktop nobody wants to have one (except true gamers that aren't afraid).

HOWEVER, most professional companies (your larger, multi-billion dollar companies) will use Windows computers. The problem is that most people can't figure out anything on those computers. Half of IT problems are "is it plugged in?" and "have you updated to the latest version?".

    Why buy a Mac?

Its just this stigma that we live in where Macs are "professional" and a status symbol. People actually believe that they are getting what they pay for but fail to realize they are paying a huge amount just for the brand and the rest of the technology is the same that any PC builder can acquire and use in his own build.

Macs are overrated, the OS on the other hand is very simple to use and I that is really its only advantage it has.

    Why buy a Mac?

Not a Mac hipster here by any stretch but I just switched to Mac a month ago. I've been a PC junkie for over 25 years, build, mod, hack, etc. you name it, I've done it. I'm a programmer by profession and manage servers on the side. I have said, no shouted repeatedly that I'd never go Mac in a million years. Just not worth it IMO but and the main reason I switched is stability. The mac OS is so stable and just works. Plain and simple it always works. No viruses, no hangups, no IO errors, It just works. I thought I would be giving up control and the ability to tweak my machine but I can do everything I could do on a PC with a Mac and it just works. All the time. Did I mention that it works? Also, because I'm a programmer I needed to expand my platforms to iOS for iPad, iPhone and iPod development. I was relunctant and pretty nervous but it's been a breeze and I run Parallels so I'm also running Windows 7 at the same time. Best of both worlds IMO. Honestly, I wish I would have set up my rig like this years ago.

    Why buy a Mac?

Yup, I too use Mac OS as the primary. Regarding hipsterism, I very rarely bring my machine outside; tablets win in case of portability. Just like STIFFbrand mentioned, OS X is very stable, comparing to XP SP3/Win7 SP1 that I had used before. Also, I find it more efficient in terms of basic, everyday tasks (e-mail, web browsing, light file management, etc.) The gestures, QuickLook, Spotlight, all these little things boost my efficiency, or, at least, yield more pleasurable experience. Is it, generally, BETTER? Probably no. It is just slightly different. Bear in mind, though, that you're not going to play the vast majority of games on a Mac (thankfully, it's been quite a while since I lost the interest in gaming). However, is it worth the extra money? Answer yourself. (I'm planning on getting rid of my MacBook Air and building a Hackintosh)

You've quite literally used words from Apple's marketing campaign in an attempt to make a point. Have you ever heard of Linux?

Bragging is one part of it. I don't know why people are so keen or so interested to buy a Mac. It doesn't offer much compared to custom-built computers.

    Why buy a Mac?

I've been interested in buying a mac as well. You should run a Virtual Machine (Such as Oracle's VM Virtual Box) and test it out to see what you think. It is a lot more user friendly, barley any maintenance, and the OS is very pretty.

It is really good if you do basic tasks (Ex. Facebook, Word Processing, Spreadsheets etc.) You can even run a virtual machine of windows inside your Mac computer that runs very well and smooth if you configure it right.

I would only buy a laptop though, IMOP the desktops are garbage.

    Why buy a Mac?

I've got a MacBook Pro 15 inch. The specs it has are pretty decent for average gaming (I installed windows). I move around a lot and I'll be using the computer when I go to university later this year, so it's better for me to have a laptop. Since I've got a lot of Apple tech, I know it's a reliable brand.
I didn't get it to brag.

    Why buy a Mac?

I think Mac's are just good because of their beautiful user-interface, sleek design, and all the programs you need (I.e. Java for RS) are built in with the updates. And as a little bonus, if you're an iPhone, iPod, or iPad user, they are much more compatible with them. Macs run fast, and are good computers build to last.

Way more user-friendly, but has little support for some of the games I like to play (older games mostly). I had to install Windows.

Horse shit, it faces the same exact issues as other laptop brands, if not more so. My brother has faced so much crap with his mac book pro it's almost a joke.

    Why buy a Mac?

    "User friendly interface/User friendly OS"
Well it doesn't take a bloody mastermind to use a normal PC.

The social mold that everyone has to fit their claws into "Oh you don't have an Apple Product? You must be poor!"

Coffee Shop Elitism. *cough* Starbucks *cough*

Everyone saying about it's 'sleek design'; It's not really hard to make a rectangle and then have rounded edges is it.

Their specs are horrendous for their price, you could build a $500 PC with the same specs as a 3k Mac.

Enjoy your flash, It must take someone who is familiar with a "User-friendly" system a couple of weeks to figure it out.

Can't tell if you're being serious or not right now.

And so is a PC for a tenth of a price!

Snobs buy them for social acceptance.

NOTE: My post isn't meant to offend anyone - It's all in jest.

    Why buy a Mac?

For some reason I would bet it's because of the spacing on a Mac laptop (at least the newer ones) is closer to that of a standard QWERTY keyboard. The problems with other laptops is that they cram them all together, making double-striking while typing an all-too-common occurrence.

    Why buy a Mac?

The Macbook is perfect for writing papers, business, convenience, and etc. If you're a gamer, DO NOT buy a Mac. I made that mistake, they don't have that many programs for it :x I tried to download a bunch of stuff I had on my HP and they're incompatible on my Mac. Mac's are just a very classy piece of equipment and they're pretty much virus-proof.

    Why buy a Mac?

contrary to popular belief, I don't buy apple because I'm a rich fuck who likes to brag about my apple logo (because I most definitely am the exact and complete opposite of rich. I'm poor. Broke. starving college student). I bought my iphone because it's an exceptional tool. It works flawlessly for every possible use I could have for a cell phone, the touchscreen and graphic interface, basically everything, runs smoother than any other phone I've ever played with or owned. The only issue I've ever had was the occasional app crashes, but it's never screwed me over in any way, and thanks to the iPhones sleek and minimalistic design, it's not a hassle to just start the app back up. Most apps start right back up where you left off too, even after crashing.

Cell service is flawless, no dropped calls.
    Pictures are beautiful.
Music can be pirated and installed through itunes, so I don't get why people bitch about having to use itunes to sync... it's no harder than dragging music and video files to a USB drive, you just have to wait a few minutes for it to load onto itunes and sync into the phone.
Internet is speedy and smooth running, and easy to use
notifications are highly customizable so you can set what you want the phone to alert you about-- emails, texts, calls obv, app updates, etc.
The only issue is that the app store offers a very limited choice in apps. Sure there's hundreds of thousands, maybe over a million apps, but I feel all the games are the same, or the pay-to-play money schemes, but meh

As far as mac computers go, all the same applies. The interface design is always flawless and intuitive and simplistic and easy/fun to use. The only issue there is the price, and if they were lower in price, I would ABSOLUTELY go with mac if they were better priced.

Oh and macs don't play well with video games, that's another turnoff, but I hardly play video games, and all the ones I do play work on mac now that LoL is mac-friendly
