    Maya Rendering and Temperatures

    Hey

    I need some help.

    I got a i5 3570k processor on my pc.

I'm rendering a scene and the processors get up to 70 degrees, is that normal?

    Thanks.

Yeah you're fine. What CPU cooler do you have?

The other question is whether the CPU is overclocked. My computer is running 21C under no load, and spikes up 15+Cs under a "standard" load [Intel Burn Test] (that's 3gHz, normal clocking, on a crappy AMD processor with an aftermarket cooler). I could easily see 70C while under heavy rendering mode - especially with a stock CPU cooler.

My pc is built by me, the only thing I have as of now for cooling is a fan that I have on the side of my pc that keeps it cool I guess, it's normally on 37/40 C.

    I don't think I have it overclocked, it's 3,4 gHz.

The other thing is that a window popped up when it reached 72C.

You're saying that there isn't a fan/heatsink on your CPU? You should have one that looks like this: [IMG]

That should be over your CPU. If there isn't one then you may have an issue.

If you have one, it sounds like your heatsink isn't cooling properly. 37/40C without a load is kind of high (in my opinion).

You might want to look into aftermarket or attempt to remount the CPU fan. If it's not attached properly (the thermal paste isn't conducting properly, etc.) it may not cool it properly.

Also, someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but it appears to be slightly OCed (unless the turbo spreads across all four channels)?

    Sorry for my ignorance.

Overclocked. Sorry. But I would like someone else's eyes on this. I am just looking at the max MHz values you have there and they seem high for a 3.4GHz.

    It's not overclocked.

But we'll wait for someone to come by this thread I guess :p

See if you can get a hold of Trippin as he's been the one that has caught most things I've missed.

It could also be that the CPU cooler isn't mounted properly (as stated). I accidentally left it mounted improperly and once remounted it cooled much better.

The speeds are fine. 3750ks boost to 3.8ghz. It could be that it's not mounted correctly but it would most likely be hotter than it is right now. Those heats are fine for now but I suggest you upgrade to a after market CPU cooler if you plan on rendering shit more often.

Any suggestions on what should I buy?

Also, at the moment I just have a fan cooling my pc, any suggestions on what cooler should I buy for the entire pc?

I'm guessing you built this? What case do you got?
