Miniranks suggestion

Would it be possible to make some mini ranks available to everyone? I know some were given by admins to certain people but these mini ranks don't indicate anything useful and in my opinion would be better to open those mini ranks up to the public. Obviously the post count ones wouldn't apply because those are removed after a time and have a requirement but some of the mini ranks don't really have a requirement and in my opinion would be better to give as an option for everyone to use. I'm not sure how many mini ranks there are but I'm sure we could easily make a list of the ones which could be available to everyone.

Also would it be possible to add miniranks for each games discussion sub forum. It would potentially increase activity there and some of the sections really need the activity boost.

I think the fun ranks should be left as "awards" and not just given out willy-nilly. We have been trying to get miniranks for each subsection prepared as well. Jack already had a steam one (but it was for Official Verifiers). My suggestions go lost pages back, and in the SF.

I have a set on page 4 for other games and off topic. I was also trying to get a minirank set going for national flags, but when I moved it (in my photouploader) they all blanked. http://www.sythe.org/11946416-post82.html

I'll get them uploaded there again soon and maybe it can be implemented a little more easily with the mini-rank manager (as a sub-section to it where you can choose up to 2 flags [similar to donator rank?])

 

o ok didn't see that thread, but I don't think you guys went over these other mini ranks which are given by admins. These ranks mean nothing and I don't really think it would hurt if everyone had access to them through the mini rank manager, its pretty dull on that page and it could liven it up a bit if a larger selection was offered. I wasn't referring to fun ranks because those are given out as awards but mini ranks such as the ones I listed are not given out as awards and shouldn't be a representation of anything but by limiting it, the miniranks do display something more than they are meant to.

 

Everyone having mini-ranks isn't good. It makes the rank practically worthless, imho. No support, sorry.

 

It doesn't make it worthless, it allows people to customize their profile the way they want. If more mini ranks are added then people will differentiate their ranks. When mini ranks were introduced they were meant to be meaningless and everyone would be able to acquire them hence the requirements but I think it would be a good idea to open some of the ranks which were introduced in the spam forum up to the public rather than it being a token of gratitude from admins.

 

But then everyone would have the ranks. It makes it less exclusive somehow. It's kinda like how the admins won't give out ranks to any member. If you give all members the option to choose, let's say, the cracker head rank and the zombie rank, everyone would use it. Then there'd be thousands using it and it wouldn't be exclusive. Ugh I'm really bad at explaining this.

This is about mini ranks, not fun ranks.

Fun ranks are still awarded but mini ranks were not meant to be awards.

 

But the miniranks you are suggesting are ones that Sythe and a few other admins were providing in spam forum at their choosing. If you provide them to everyone then they're worthless.

The spam forum shouldn't be representative of something like this, the ranks weren't meant to hold significant value but by being received by admins they were made more valuable than they should be. Some mini ranks represent achievements while others like the ones I posted in the thread were given to be meaningless and since they are meaningless should they not be available to everyone? The only argument I see is that people want to be differentiated through mini ranks and by receiving them from admins they are made more valuable but that was not meant to be the point of the mini rank system. I don't mind if the miniranks in the op stay exclusive but I'd like to see a default set be added for people to play around with on their profiles.

 

i would support other ways for people to earn the permanent mini ranks such as the ones above. Sythe needs to come back to the spam forum and have another contest like he did the last time where you had to find the reference in the pictures to win a mini rank. That would be cool and it was fun in my opinion when he was doing it in the spam forum. But no one else is allowed to have my Super Cute Penguin -.-

 

But that's the point. Everyone likes to feel special in some way or another. If you tell me you don't like that feeling, then you're lying to yourself.

I absolutely agree with you that there needs to be a default set that should be added, but in the same respect there needs to be a limit on how many from said default set can be used at a certain time. I have been looking for new ones that are just "available" fun ranks, but the ones you are suggesting are a little too ridiculous of ranks for it (mushroom might be fine).

 

Isn't there a limit to how many miniranks can be displayed on a page? I thought the limit was added once the miniranks started messing up the alignment.

They are given out by admins, why can't it stay like that. They mean nothing anyways, if anything their am annoyance so people may disable some.

 

Those specific ones are, yes. And that's sort of what I said before. But having a few that could be set up as "default/fun mini-ranks" that you can choose to add would be nice feature.

Maybe as you go up in donator rank, you get more mini-ranks to choose from.

ie: Non-Donors get ABC and can only use 1 at a time.
$5 Donors get ABCD and can only use 1 at a time
$25 Donors get ABCDEF and can only use 1 at a time.
etc.
$100 Donor gets (insert) and can use 2 miniranks at a time
$200 gets (insert) and can use 3 miniranks at a time
$300 gets 4 miniranks at a time.
$400+ get A-Z miniranks and they can choose to use up to 5 at a time.

This and the choice of 1-2 flags (of your choice) + whatever miniranks are acquired through accomplishments on the forum seems rather fair. :huh: Not to mention it would give a new perk to $400+ donors. And you still have the option to disable them in minirank manager. And if you REALLY don't like the images just get ADBlock and block that specific image. >_<

 

I think if there were a few default that's fine, but other wise i think they should still be given out by admins only. So semi support.
