    Cross Country - NEED HELP

If your goal is to eventually compete/run races outdoors, you won't be used to the conditions. Running on a treadmill is easier because the ground is essentially being pulled underneath your feet. There's also no wind resistance, not to mention the monotony of running in one place for more than an hour and a half.

Physically yes, sure, you can do it, but I'm a keen proponent of outdoor running for the reasons mentioned above. I can only think of the treadmill as a tool for cardio (and anything above 30 minutes is really just pushing it). Personally, I'll be out running whether it's raining, snowing, hailing, ...

Oh, well I need to work on my cardio so maybe I should stick with it until I can run 2 miles or so and then run outside.

Scrap the treadmill. Running on ground is a lot more beneficial.

I ran down to my country club and back (roughly a mile, downhill one way and uphill the other). I got in the door and it felt like my legs were on fire.

I was running on the sidewalk. I don't know how long I was out running or anything, and Google Maps says it's about .5-.6 miles each way.

When does it get easier? This is just a mile... I need to be at atleast 5 by the end of May.

On the treadmill I was running about 1.5 miles at 6mph before I had to quit, but the lactic acid burn was NEVER this bad.

It's sidewalk mate, don't run on that shit or you'll get shin splints. I live in Texas too so weather wise I can relate, but you need to run on grass or you will fuck up your shins.

Also just get used to running outside, start running early morning (4-5AM) as the weather is good then in the summer, and then work up to the hotter temperatures.

Yeah I'll make sure to stay on the grass next time. Other than the HORRIBLE lactic acid burn that felt like a really quick mile. I mean on the treadmill it feels like I'm running there for hours and it feels awful. I'm really glad I finally got outside - it was a really nice day out so I decided to give it a shot.

LOL Ran track and cross country before, lemme tell you the objective of this.

Whenever you are running the objective is to run more and more daily. Every day you have to push yourself to the point that you feel like you cant run anymore in this you should have a person trainer, because its hard to run to the point of not wanting to run you have to be pushed and motivated. The more you run the more your body will adjust soon you will find yourself running miles and miles and not even getting tired. Soon it will just come to you like damn ive been running for so long. Its all about the breaths.
