Quick 1-37 mage guide, only costs 13k!

Ok so figured I'd share for those of you who never trained mage on a budget. I am not saying I came up with all of the ideas in this guide but I did write this in my own words and specific to the 2007 server conditions right now so I feel like it's useful, hope it helps someone.

1. Do Imp Catcher, yes it's a bit annoying getting the beads but it's an amulet of accuracy which is very useful for ranging and stuff later and best of all, it's a free 900 magic xp so just do it and stop whining. I killed my imps on top of the karamja volcano, like 4 spawns there so it didn't take long.

2. Acquire about 13-14k coins

3. Go to port sarim rune shop and buy the following amounts of each rune.
- 973 body runes
- 1622 water runes
- 324 earth runes
**make sure to only buy body runes if there are more than 4600 runes in the shop to get the cheapest, 3 coin price**
**make sure to only buy earth and water runes if there are more than 4700 in the shop to get the cheapest, 4 coin price**

4. Get the worst mage attack bonus you can, full iron, no cape, no amulet, stronghold boots, etc.......worked fine for me, ended up with like -50 magic attack or something like that even with the staff equipped.

5. Buy one earth staff and one water staff from zaff's staffs in varrock square

6. Equip all of your gear and both staffs and go to the wizard of zamorak under the stairs right inside the entrance to varrock castle (north of the square).

7. After the experience you get from imp catcher, you will cast the following spells:
- 37 confuses
- 125 weakens
- 811 curses

The armor is to ensure you splash so that you can continuously cast the spells on the same target over and over without them becoming immune. You may still hit every now and then but the mage guy seems to shake it off after like 1 second so it's not much of an annoyance should you succeed with a few spells here and there.

**Make sure to use the appropriate staff so as to use the least amount of runes or you will run out before you get to 37 mage. This means use the water staff for confuse and weaken and an earth staff for curse**


If you want to spend a bit more you can always hop less and buy the runes from port sarim or even the rune shop in varrock at a higher price, I simply listed the cheapest possible way for those that want to stay as frugal as possible. Also you may want to grab a few extra runes just in case you cast a lower spell accidentally because the numbers I listed assumes you do everything perfectly right. I hope this guide helped, it's not much but for those returning after awhile it may speed things up a bit. If I can make this guide better just let me know, I don't mind editing it a bit.

Great guide OP, it's clear you have done your research. Also, the staff is +10 mage bonus I believe so after that you must have -50 mage bonus to always splash, you should add that to the guide.

Why don't you also do Witch's Potion? That quest will get you 10 mage right off the bat from level 1

 

That is a possibility if someone wanted to do it. I left it out mainly because I hate questing and it's faster to use spells to get from 8-10 vs. using another quest. It's definitely all personal preference though.

I hope somebody cann tell me how to do 37-55 easy and fast on 07scape. I have some money to spend but must not be too much. Cursing is too slow at this point

 

Honestly you can keep cursing if you don't mind a little monetiny. It's about 5k more casts from 37-55, which at about 800 casts an hour isn't too bad to get to alching.
