I need your verdict on where to start with all these bands: I'm currently into Black Sabbath, Candlemass, Eluveitie and Opeth. EDIT: Since people like to state the obvious and not read all my replies, i'm aware not all of it is metal, but thank you for taking the time to read every folder name.
Ok you are going to have to aware me, did you just get this dump of music from a friend and are wondering what you should check out in the vein of candlemass sabbath and opeth or what?? If thats the case it would be easier if you moved out the bands that you obviously know like mastodon, deicide ect ect . Lol'd irl over that random Yes folder.
start with the megadeth. you (might) not like dave mustaines voice at first, but you'll learn to love it quickly. listen to these albums first: 1. rust in peace 2. peace sells 3. killing is my business 4. endgame then go ahead and listen to youthanasia, countdown to extinction, so far so good so what, united abominations, the system has failed, and cryptic writings and whatever else is left they're seriously probably the greatest band to ever grace this earth. you won't regret it
Ok, I think i'll go over what i've actually listened to already first, and remove them from the list. EDIT: Grabbed them all off a friend. EDIT2: I've listened to some of Megadeth's stuff, primarily Rust in Peace and I enjoyed it. EDIT3: Not all of it is metal (for instance the random Daft Punk folder) Green = I've either listened to before or have done since acquiring this music. Red = not too keen on. (Sunn O)))) and Negro Altar (self-explanatory if you listen to it yourself [horrid recording etc])
Looks like a lot of doom metal to me. Witchfinder General is pretty decent, The Yardbirds aren't metal but they are the precursor to Led Zeppelin so they're worth a listen. At The Gates is the genesis of modern death metal, they're a good band. Heaven and Hell is a great classic metal band. Man-O-War of course. Shadows Fall has some good stuff. Morbid Angel has some good stuff. Godspeed You! Black Emperor isn't metal but they're pretty good. Iced Earth is some pretty good celtic metal. Gojira is interesting. I think that is about all I know.
That moment when you have been blasting Rust in Peace all day. OT: I've heard a lot of good things about "Heidevolk" though I'm not too familiar with them, other than the fact they are similar to Eluveitie. For some harder stuff I recommend checking out the Dutch band: Peter Pan Speedrock Though crossed off, I always enjoy Metallica's Kill 'em all and Death Magnetic
It would take forever to go through all or most of them but ill go through the ones i particularly like or think you may be interested in. Agalloch- Doomy, folky (kinda like eluveitie) black type metal. A pretty eclectic mix. DEFINITELY worth checking out. Autopsy- Classic death metal in the vein of death, deicide ect. 80s and early 90s. No "core" bullshit. Ahab- "funeral doom" similar to candlemass. Fuck that way, it'll take forever hahaha. Ill bold some of the more definitive bands or ones you should realllly check out. Some bands will appear more than once due to genres overlapping . Really good old black metal bands from list, some folk metal- Bathory, Belphagor, BURZUM, Emperor, Behemoth (polish death metal/black metal), Carpathian forest, Gogoroth, Hellhammer, Mayhem, Mercyful fate (king diamonds first band, only sorta kinda black metal lol. still badass), Venom, Ulver, Immortal, Leviathan Doom metal and doom subgenres- Ahab, Burzum, Down (phil anselmos stoner doom/southern doom band), Electric Wizard, Funeral, Heaven and Hell (members of sabbath playing mostly dio sabbath), Isis, Neurosis, Om, Saint Vitus, SLEEP. GOOD Death metal (no "core" or lame assed breakdowns)- Autopsy, Bolt thrower, Death, Deicide, Dismember, Dissection, Entombed, Gogoroth (seriously some of the most tech and heavy shit ever.), Hellhammer, Kreator, MORBID ANGEL, Pentagram, Possessed, Terrorizer (kinda grindy, extreme) random stuff worth mentioning - At The gates (pretty good progressive stuff, not exactly my cup of tea but worth checking out), Hawkwind (lemmys first band), Manowar, Poison (cheesy hair metal), SEPULTURA, Slayer, Yes (hahahahahahah just do it) Your friend had some good taste in music, I quite like the death metal selection he threw in there. Almost all of it was CLASSIC death metal, some great black metal in there too. Alot of the stuff on the list was kinda old (which is to my liking) and may not have the greatest recordings, but its worth toughing out.
Some of those aren't metal bands, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Jimi Hendrix were not metal. Although, they did contribute to the metal scene in ways.
I'm well aware, thanks. The bulk of it was metal, so I figured the title would be appropriate. Already have pal, do love me some Sonata Arctica.
burzum - might actually surprise you how much you like them for what it is lol blind guardian - my brother fuckin loves blind guardian. give them a listen death - i haven't listened to much but they have one unreal album, dunno what it's called tho. they also have a super shitty album iirc manorwar - probably the most badass shit to ever grace the earth. x japan - my brother might be the biggest x japan stan in the world. they're hella good. for more knowledge on these bands
