NewCommer penalty.

I am pretty sure that most newcommers that come here and post new threads in the market section have a high potential to scam people - I am most notably talking about the accounts section where practically all of the offers there are from new commers - flooding the offers with users with which I don't want to trade at all.

Make new commers 'work' for their right to post in some market categories - like allowing them to post new threads in the market section only after 2 weeks have passed since account creation - and getting trying to figure out for them to get out of the newcommer rank somehow without spamming just for the purpose of being able to post.
Right now a scammer can scam, create a new account via proxy and he is back in the game, I don't know if this has been discussed before... but ban evaders and scammers have it far too easy...

 

Should be in the suggestions, and if people are dumb enough to fall for scams then it's their fault.

- NEVER go first to newcomers.
- If they won't go first, use a MM/OMM
- Make sure that you ALWAYS check they've accepted trade
- NEVER accept PP from them.

You'll be ok from those guidelines

 

It's common knowledge that accounts can be EASILY recovered by the original owner. Just follow the above guidelines.

 

As Sythe has said himself, we WILL NOT restrict the market. This WILL NOT happen. Ever.

Good idea in theory but unrealistic. People would leave without entering the market and we'd become smaller overtime.

It's also worth noting most newcomers do not scam(common myth). Those that have intentions are ban evaders who are banned relatively quickly. Ask any RSGP trader. They've all accepted payments from newcomers with 99% success rate.

 

Bad idea is bad, in theory and in practice.

Limiting new accounts will drive them elsewhere. Thats bad for the sites growth, instead of goofy ideas like this i think we should all be more focused on educating users on safer trading.

Pepole google "rs account market" and come to sythe. They won't want to wait to sell there goods. 9/10 times.

 

Agreed. I've accepted payments in excess of $200+ from newcomers, and rarely had issues.

 

Not all newcomers are bad I have done business with a lot of them, and I myself was one not so long ago. I don't think there should be any restrictions on the market people just need to practice safe trading. Also, If you wanted to see people opinions on this it should be moved to suggestions and or community input section

 

i understand where speedster is comming from with this, but like n4n0 explained you cant really restrict people from veiwing certain sections of the forums without making it offputting to them and not making them want to come back again.

however i do agree, the account section is crawling with scammers.

you only have to donate around 15-20m gold , then once you do this your allowed to donate via paypal.

im quite sure you only need to donate $5 for first donation with gp, then after that your allowed to use paypal option

id imagine if they had an open donation button availble to everyone then it could be highly abused by frauded paypal payments etc.

 

Oblivion, the current donations for RSGP require about $10 worth of RSGP to equal $5.

 

I'm no veteran here at Sythe however I do believe this is a good idea. There are obvious precautions you can take not to get scammed of course, but some people may no know these. I have read stickies in the Market section however I am yet to set up a service or buy anything from there yet. I'll probably buy some gold for '07 RuneScape when it finally comes out, hopefully soon.

 

I agree that less government is a good thing. And yes leaving some things without restriction is very liberal and I love the idea, but I am still sure there are some thing that can be implemented without restricting users from posting that will ensure higher security.

For example hacked sythe accounts. A similar system to Jag on Sythe would be a nice addition (and an icon on the profile to point that out will give ensure some users that the sythe account wasn't hacked or anything) .

 

Sythe is a free market and there should not be any market restriction once so ever. It's a given right to all users by Sythe.

I do like the idea of having a similar system like JAG imposed here on Sythe. Would remove hacked users scamming here.
