Important info about '07 servers - PLEASE READ

Hey everyone.

I know there has been a lot of excitement over the past few days surrounding the announcement of an official voting poll regarding the possibility of bringing old (2007) servers back to RuneScape. With this announcement has come lots of queries and questions, and has raised certain issues that may cause doubt or sway people not to vote.

Mod MMG posted some additional information along with a short Q&A on the RSOF that answers some questions people have in the mean time. Mod MMG made one point that a lot of people have overlooked or are unaware of, and so I want to try and make this clear with this post.



An excerpt taken from his post on the RSOF:

There are some limiting factors in this vote, the main one being that ONLY members are allowed to vote. Despite the concurrent, everyday player count shown on the RuneScape website, So Wreck3d has assured his viewers that after speaking with Mark Gerhard (Mod MMG) on Skype, he was learned that in reality there are closer to 1.4 million people with an active, paid membership right now - excluding anybody running a 2 week trial membership



Why every single paying RuneScape member should cast a vote:


Regardless of this fact there is allegedly almost 1.4 million members actively playing RuneScape, getting 500,000 votes together is no small feat. I am posting here to try and help people understand that the MORE VOTES WE GET, THE BETTER QUALITY & CHEAPER THE END RESULT WILL BE!

Please take the time to vote if you are a member, and tell your friends about this. Every single vote that goes into this poll makes a HUGE difference and the more votes we get, the more the extra servers will benefit every single person who plays RuneScape.

If the community can collectively reach 500,000 votes or more, the resulting resurrected 2007 servers will be have NO ADDITIONAL MEMBERSHIP COSTS on top of what you pay for the main EOC version of RuneScape. This benefits everybody collectively, as you will be able to go back and forth between the 2 versions of the game as you please for absolutely no extra costs.





When is the vote?


The voting poll goes up Feb. 15th (tomorrow) and remains open for 2 weeks. You will be able to access the vote from the main RS webpage, with the live results being updated regularly (like the wildy/free trade vote).

In addition to the open polls, there is a live Q&A with Mod Mark, the lead developer of RuneScape, being streamed on Feb. 20th. If you have any questions or concerns I would advise tuning in

NOTE: Only RuneScape accounts with a legitimate membership will be allowed to vote. This means that the free 2-week membership trial accounts do NOT count, so don't waste any time mass creating accounts with trial membership in order to vote!

I am hoping this thread can be circulated amongst people here on Sythe so potential voters can get the facts they need. Although the thread on the RSOF is very informative thus far, it is tucked away on the forums where tens, possibly hundreds of thousands of people will never see it, and will therefore remain uninformed about the vote.

Great job getting your friends on board! Continue to spread the word, and let everybody know that if they have questions or concerns that there is a live Q&A being streamed on February 20th

 

Very good post you made man. I can't agree more with what you wrote down.

I think if this goes through, the rs 2007 version will be a very actively played game. Jagex won't open a massive amount of worlds(like the current rs) so you'll have lots of busy worlds which is part of the fun.
Because now with the current giant rs map most worlds only have 300-500 players in them, making it kind of empty & dead/lonely at times.

It'll feel like you're back in 2007 with an active player base and many players around you skilling, talking, merching,playing castle wars, etc!

 

I know a lot of people have quit RS, but they should honestly pay the $5 or whatever it is now to be a member and vote.

That's what I'm doing at least, making a few accounts p2p just to vote.

Because in order to get the amount of votes needed to have RS like it was, without any bullshit $15 fee and no f2p, it's going to take a lot of people to vote. A lot of people that haven't played in a long time and don't have membership anymore.

 

I completely agree!

Some people have expressed concern that people will grow bored of the '07 servers very fast and find other things to complain about, which may be true. But that is EXACTLY why we need to hit the 750,000 vote mark so badly!

If we can reach the top tier (750K) of votes then I think the servers will be incredibly. They will be regularly maintained and possibly even updated, and the best part is that we will be able to switch back and forth between the EOC version of RuneScape and the old-school servers, all as part of our regular membership benefits.

It will be exactly how things are now, except with an option to log into an old-school server when you feel like it for a fresh experience, to do some PK'ing etc. Whenever it gets boring or you need a break, people will be able to return to their current accounts on the main game and play modern RuneScape.

In the end, it benefits everybody and has no ill effects on ANYBODY ^_^

So true^^^!!! I nearly am crying... I can imagine it. I remember worlds with over 1000 people on them back in the day, it was a lot of fun. ^_^

This is the only area of this 2007 server poll that I feel very ripped off on.

I understand Jagex's position and why they want to limit the voting process to members only, but I know that tens of thousands of paying members quit because of the Evolution of Combat.

Those tens of thousands of players are a very large part of those who signed So Wreck3d's initial petition and would certainly be voters. However, as non-members they are forced to either renew membership just for the purpose of voting, or not vote at all and hope for the best.

Solution:

I believe Jagex should let people vote who just recently cancelled their membership (around the time the EOC was implemented), as it would be slightly more fair. Without some sort of compromise like that, I feel like Jagex is licking their lips with greed at the potential payday that might come their way as thousands upon thousands of people re-subscribe solely for the purpose of casting a vote.

There have already been thousands of players on the RSOF who have claimed to do exactly that, and Mod MMG even noted that in one of his posts after he personally read hundreds of pledges from players stating that.

 

This is interesting but according to this, voting would just incentivate people to study less and spend more time infront of a computer. When they should be doing more important things i.e: Going out, socializing, studying, getting better grades in college, working and many more.

 

Theres also another reason why jagex only wants current members to vote.

All the income from the current members would normally be re-invested in the current runescape projects(as planned probably). So they want to encourage people who aren't member, who loved the 2007 runescape so much, to become a member(and basicly donate/invest to that project). Look at it as a seperate funding(a kick-starter) for the Runescape 2007 Project ;P.

It would be foolish to just set up the 2007 server with money earned from the 2013 rs memberships. If it were to fail, it would have been a big loss on their side.

I don't know if you guys get my point lol but it's an understandable decision of Jagex

 

wait so if we get 750k votes will it be f2p or will you still have to purchase membership to play it?

EDIT: Okay a little bit of searching and there will be a f2p portion! Can't wait to see that old school login screen again

Well, it won't be fully F2P of course. The will most likely open a F2P version(with only the limit to only play in the F2P world). And next to that P2P for the people who paid membership.

Hey Zerkerfist, thanks for the update buddy! Would be nice to see '07 as just an add-on with no additional cost towards the current membership, although 750K votes is doable, it will be hard. I see myself paying for members just to vote for this because I've been waiting for it ever since EoC. If you have any more info on the matter just throw me a PM. I think that RuneScape's active members will increse hopefully!

 

They're not having my money just to get a vote. Hell no.
