Finish year 12... or not ??? debate

Ok so here is the point of this topic... to ask you all if you think that it is better to finish year 12 or drop out... before replying please read through my whole post to see the benefits of each...

if you elect to drop out of school in say year 10 or 11 it is possible to sign up for a certificate III course in tafe which on average takes 6 months... then once you have completed this you are eligible for a Diploma course which would be a 6-12 month extension of your previous certificate III course... this means that if you drop out at the end of year 9 and start tafe when year 10 would be starting you can have a diploma before the rest of your mates have finished school... and with a diploma under your belt entry into university is nearly guaranteed... as well as this with only a diploma you are more than qualified for most entry level jobs in the industry you studied (which for me is software development) which means i now will have the choice to start a job with an average entry level wage of 64,000 AUD a year at the age of 17 and a half... And if you have studied to gain a diploma it automatically gives you 16 points of your OP score even if you didnt goto school... there are also many other ways to get your score better if you research them... i will have an OP of 3 by the time i finish my diploma (1 being the best 25 being the worst) which is a lot better than i would hav achieved at school because i have issues with concentrating on boring topics...

whereas if you elect to stick it out through school you will have to fully goto the last two years and leave school with only an overall position which can get you entry to Uni which will take another 4 years to complete... thus putting you approximately 4.5 years behind the so called "dropout"

obviously you can see which side i am leaning towards by the amount of writing i did on the first... express you opinion.

Id say finish dude, if you dont it can come bak to haunt you. My cousin dropped out and he said it was the worst choice he ever made. He lost all his friends, his parents basically shuned him. Who cares if it takes an extra year.

I don't know how it works where you live.. All this tafe and certificate III course i've never heard of, but here in the US, dropping out and getting your GED, which is what I think your talking about, Is basically saying I was to lazy to finish high school.

That is not the same as a highschool diploma(at least here it isn't.) Getting into a decent universty with only a GED is nearly impossible here, but as I said, you should explain this tafe and what not so I know what it is.

Or you could just finish year 12 since it's the easiest usually. (And use the ENTER button when typing).

Year 12 is easy enough. Just take slacker classes/don't take certain hours.

If you wanted to drop out, you should've done it freshman year. It's dumb to drop out the last year.
(I'm assuming 12th is the last grade before college... don't know about aussie)

Finish it through an alternate source.
There are plenty of colleges like Duke that allow you to start college early, gaining both college and high school credit at the same time.

If you get high scores on the SAT or ACT, you're guaranteed an early start...
And a higher edge on anyone who drops out for added benefits.

Yeah you can also complete a year 12 eqivalency at tafe over here which only takes 6 months...

Ok so tafe is basically jsut like UNI except cheaper and courses only go upto Diploma... The entry pre-requisites are much lower and thus make it possible to study even if yo uare a dropout.

Obviously no-oe understands the point that even if you do drop out... In Australia... it is still possible to get your OP, same as SAT and all those jsut the score you get when you finish year 12 quite good if you know what to do... Not finishing year 12 only comes back to haunt you if your too damn stupid to go out and complete some alternative study...

I mean i dropped out in 11 and im going to be making 60+ thousand AUD easily within the next year because TAFE up here on the gold coast guarantees you work on completion of your course.

After you've explained all this, I have to say STAY IN SCHOOL.

Don't be lazy. You can finish all the courses and more people will want to hire you. Nobody wants to hire a highschool dropout who just went to some courses that were shorter out of pure laziness and just to make money a year or two earlier.

    Stupid idea. That's my opinion.

Finish year 12... or not ??? debate

To all americans, it is alot different here in Australia for schooling, it is quite common for alot of usually males to finish school at the end of year 10 and go on to work in trades like building, plumbing, becoming a chef and other various careers. And I think you are really getting things mixed up topic creator, there is no possible entry into university unless you finish school, either in school or doing school at tafe or night school. I quit school halfway through year 11, took another shot at year 11 (this is doing the hardest subjects) and didnt find the work hard at all but hated being stuck in an institution with rules and control freaks before I realised school wasnt the place for me, I now plan to do school at tafe when I am 21 and get into law. My advice is if your quitting school because you cant stand being in the place or because your far better at hands on work then do it. If you want to do university stuff and dont mind being in school then stay in school.
