There have been some cases where the staff have authorised a 'counter-scam'. If you have the option to do it then you're better off stating your case to the staff and seeing what they say. Charging back or whatever without checking first may get you a ban as well.
What? This is retarded. First off, let me just point out that myself along with plenty of other people have been scammed in the past with no retribution or consolidation at all. It would almost be a slap in the face, and not to mention down right irresponsible, to allow people to "Take matters into their own hands". If someone kills your friend, I'll bet you'll want to avenge them right? But it still doesn't make it right. If someone steals from your friend, you might want to steal something in return. Doesn't make it right. If you sell an account and the person charges back, sure, recover the account. Who wouldn't? As long as you have all the evidence of the charge back what's anyone going to say? If you're being an idiot and buying gold and someone takes your paypal, well tough luck. Get them banned and get over it. If everyone would just take a minute to properly educate themselves on trading precautions and safety, all of this can be avoided. Don't tell me it's not possible either because it most obviously is.
What about this. Arcus Isidar is hacked by A. A scams B,C,D for 1b RSGP each. A attempts to sell 3b to E. E has the gold, would refunding B, C, D 1b each be considered scamming?
E would be banned, because you can't corroborate and create a convoluted plot to counter scam. If someone recovers an account open a claim on paypal, if someone has chargedback on paypal recover the account, if someone is stupid enough to offer the gold they just scammed from you back to you and go first to you then take it. Punker was just banned for creating a completely convoluted scheme that included hacking and blackmailing to counter scam. A scam is a scam is scam. Essentially what Floyd said. Don't do it, unless you have consulted with the staff first. If you don't have enough proof to prove you have been scammed and then you go back and try and 'counter-scam' that will probably lead to you being banned for scamming. It's a vicious circle. Edit: Ninja'd
If user A scams user B for 500M and runs off with it. Then tries to sell it to user C immediately after, if there is enough proof shown user C should be able to take his GP and give it back to the scammed user, which would be user B.
No because who's to say B isn't hacked, who's to say it isn't an elaborate scam to frame C, Who's to say B isn't really lying and made a 10 minute chat log edit that you'll look over in a haste and it's actually a plan to scam A? Bottom line, don't do it. People shouldn't take matters into their own hands without actual briefing with someone besides a frantic scam victim, it will only create a bigger web. This just sounds like it would be merica's solution for the war on scammers: just scam the scammers!
The person who was scammed, should be the only person reclaiming what is rightfully theirs, and ONLY for the amount they were scammed for. They could do so by employing the use of a MM/OMM/Staff member, but random "do gooders" should not be trying to do so as this just creates problems for everyone involved, and then creates problems for staff who have to figure out what's going on when scam reports start flying.
