Hi. I am absolutely alien to computer tech and I need help from Sythe members to help me pick the right laptop for me. I am soon starting college and I am required to buy a laptop for my school work. I am studying in the design department of school, so it will require me to use the laptop a lot. What Im looking for in the laptop: -Im studying in the design department, so a laptop with good media capability? i dont know... -I dont have a desktop PC so I plan to play a few games (L4D2, TF2, Minecraft just to name a few) so a good laptop that can run these games very well would be great. -A laptop that is durable and would last me quite a long time, atleast 3years if not more -Laptop with the best specs among the 3 below, because I doubt I would invest money into upgrading anything on the laptop itself These are laptops that are available for me to pick from because student laptop loans from the school are only provided for these. Lenovo IdeaPad Y460P HP Probook 4431S Fujitsu LH 531 NYP Thank you in advance Sythe.org!
I would pick the Lenovo spec wise, better processor, better video card. However, people go with HP because of them being well-known of amazing quality products, my cousin has a HP laptop, really similar specs of the one in the pic, 15.6" i7 2670.. he doesn't have any problems with it, it runs fantastic, even with a mid-range nVidia card. The Lenovo, however is better in specs, I haven't had any problems with my Moms Lenovo ThinkPad laptop (I use it rarely..) and it's really good. You can decide, the last picture isn't something I would go for (not because of the look).. it has an older GT 410M, 4GB of RAM, 640GB HDD, far from others. I don't know if you can buy from XoticPC, if you can look at this: http://www.xoticpc.com/asus-n56vjdh71-p-4969.html?wconfigure=yes Upgrade abit of things to fit your budget, I'd say a 3740QM would be nice for an extra $340..
The Lenovo is your best bet for gaming, and it does mention a 3 year on-site warranty, so the above posters saying HP is your best bet are wrong.
HPs have quite high defection rates. I dislike Macs. They're overpriced. HPs have quite high defection rates.
Out of your choices, the Lenovo...by far. Lenovos are exceptional machines. they're not the prettiest laptops by any means...but i'll bet you'll never have any problems with it. Spec-wise...I'd also stick with the lenovo. I wouldn't EVER recommend anyone to buy an HP anymore. They just aren't built that well...and they have AWFUL cooling capabilities on nearly every model. I had a Fujitsu years ago(was actually a fujitsu-siemens amilo) and it was a great laptop...but the fan was awfully loud and ran constantly. This was many years back though, surely things have changed since then. and yes, macbooks are overpriced garbage. don't listen to that guy.
Lenovo is amazing. But even better get an alienware. you won't need to game on it, but the high specs and graphics(for design) are great and the you can grab the m14x with upgrades for the same price as the others you were looking at. also its alienware so its awesome.
Lenovo looks like the best option. HP is terrible and by looking at the design of it being in a certain metal it will overheat like a mofo and you will burn your legs/table. Mine has a metallic case and it hits 70*C in 2 years of use :/ Not fun at all. The fujitsu, never ever seen them before.
I agree with one of the above posts, a M14X is cool, it's heavy but cool, it looks amazing, and for $1399 you can get an i7 Ivy Bridge+GT650M+ 1600x900 screen+ 32GB SSD+ 750GB 7200RPM http://configure.us.dell.com/dellst...el_id=alienware-m14x-r2&c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19
