It's absolutely disgusting that people can find their family members attractive.

 

What a narrow minded response. Just because you don't doesn't mean that others couldn't. You can't really help who you're attracted to.

 

I don't see how you could be attracted to a family member that close to you? I mean people obviously do get attracted, but I can't see how? Also isn't incest against the law? Also can't incest relationships create deformed/disabled babies due to them sharing many chromosomes from parents?

 

It's just wrong as the side effects have been posted above. It's like bringing suffering into the world.

 

I think incest is pretty sick and disturbing. I mean why do you think there are so many kids with problems that come out of it.

Exactly. We've already established that the 'it makes unhealthy babies' excuse is not valid, unless you'd be willing to argue that two people with sickle-cell anemia do not have the right to love each other.

 

I would not argue that they cannot be together, but I would be against them bringing a child into this world. Let them have a sperm donor impregnate her so the child has better defenses against malaria.

There is also a lot of evidence for the hypothesis that we have psychological adaptations to avoid incest, along with the rest of the animal kingdom.

Psychological adaptations have nothing to do with if incest is right or wrong. I may, in a psychological manner, avoid homosexual relationships, but that doesn't mean homosexuality is wrong.

And there are animals which engage in incestuous relationships. Bonobos are a good example.

Okay, but I want to know what YOU think about incest. I don't care if an incestuous couple thinks they're both doing something moral. How do you judge it?

I think incest is wrong, but to a certain extent I don't think it's correct to judge people because of it. At the end of the day, if two human beings love each other, regardless of their DNA then, they you could argue they deserve the right to be together. However the decision to start a family would be extremely wrong, simply because that child could well end up seriously ill or deformed, and having children therefore would be an extremely selfish thing to do imo

Oh gawd, incest is obviously wrong. You shouldn't be having sexual relations with someone who is related to you, just disturbing.

'Inbreeding" doesn't cause problems so quickly, or as dramatically as most people think. It only increases the chance that both parents have the same recessive genes, so that the child could develop a genetic characteristic that it would not have otherwise.

Example: Color Blindness, if both parents have a recessive color blindness gene then they could both be normal visioned, and produce a color blind child.

However it still isn't guaranteed, only more likely because the parents have the same recessive genes.

I myself don't think that incest is necessarily wrong, but may be unwise.

To me a relationship has to bring something new, if the two siblings have known each-other for their entire lives, there is little new in their relationship besides sex. While meeting a totally different person gives the chance to experience the thrill of learning who they are.

If you cloned me (and the clone had all of my memory), I wouldn't much care to talk to myself - Nothing new.

(For the same reason, I do not think that relationships started early in life are ever made to last, people need to WAIT.)

tl;dr version:
- I dont think incest is morally wrong, but rather only unwise.
- Genetic defects aren't as big of a concern as people think.
