Is Moneypak 100% Safe?

I've been reading through and doing some gravedigging on Moneypak posts, but haven't found a clear-shot answer yet: is Moneypak really 100% safe? Can a user "charge back" after handing over the code to you? And are there any restrictions? (I've seen $250, $500, and $1100 tossed around).

Just curious, as I'm getting back into frequent trading after a year-long hiatus (due to a PayPal misfortune) and want to know the safest method for accepting/sending payments.

If you're the one redeeming the code, then it's safe. I've yet to see any bad come of a MP.

No it isn't but around here you don't have to worry about it much. If you're really skeptical make them provide a receipt proving that it was paid with in cash and not anything else.

 

i've used moneypak for various things at least 50+ times (in and outside of sythe), and theres never been any problems.

Yes, that is the safest method of receiving paypal funds. Moneypak are treated same as cash and when it has been used, they cannot get it back.

I prefer it for most of my RSGP transactions. The only problem is that you have receiving limits with them. I want to say my threshold is $4,000 before it starts to cause problems.

 

The absolute safest way would be to use PlayerAuctions. This would also allow new users to pay via paypal. However, there are relatively substantial fees involved.

 

Yeah I want to stay away from PA lol...unless it's absolutely necessary.

 

Only problem I've had is not being able to redeem the code directly to my PayPal, so I've had to get it sent to me in mail via refund option (which is kind of cool cause if you don't mind waiting you do get the $4.95 purchase price back) but other than that I've had no issues. Also all of my PayPal information is 100% accurate and can't get my MP codes to redeem although I've tried many options, and troubleshooting.

 

Do you get your refund from Moneypak (Greendot) or the person you are trading with?

 

Another option is to ask a reputable member here at sythe to redeem them for you should you have any issues. That is the way many of the large gold seller here redeem them. Thenn they will send you the funds via paypal.

So its always an option.

I agree with you OP about playerauctions. I can't use it due to my brother being late with a delivery. So MP is the only safe way for me to trade other than WU.

 

That's not true. For it to be 100% safe, request a copy of the receipt.

 

How is it not true. It even states on the card that it is treated same as cash and they are not responsible for any loss of funds. Plus its paid for with cash so what's the risk on the receiving end? Though I would advise a mm for any of these trades due to the risk of scam.

Though asking for a picture is never a bad idea.

 

When buying gold on sythe i have ALWAYS used a MP card and NEVER had any issues with anyone, i give them the code, they put it in and they have the money and i got my gold it's a very Simple and Quick payment option.

@graves post, i'm unsure as to why it's unsafe but i mean you could have someone give you a pin you put it in and it legitimately does not work, then they say it's right blah blah but i'm unsure as to how it can be unsafe.

My experience with MP was 10/10 for sure.

MoneyPak terms of service basically says:

• They can reverse it
• You're not allowed to use it the way Sythe members do

So at the very least they can freeze your funds and bother you until you give up (I personally got a lawyer) or they can reverse the transactions if the original purchaser shows them a receipt. And they can also be purchased with debit cards.

 

But would the MoneyPak code + receipt (picture) suffice as enough protection? Or could they still reverse the code permanently (despite dispute)?

 

i think what grave is saying is if you can buy them with a debit card, then there is always a chance a person can contact their bank claiming they did not make the payment for the moneypak code , which i assume it would be similar to a credit card transaction then paypal would refund the debit user and in effect delete the moneypak code aka reversing/removing the funds of that moneypak.

i dont use moneypak as im english but im guessing this is what he means.
