    Comprehensive List of Best Anime

Well, I suggested a list be made and stickied, as anime is awesome, and I'm sure there are plenty of fans around, however, it didn't meet much response, so I'm going to take it upon myself to post animes that I have enjoyed. If you guys could post ones yourself, too, that'd be great, as otherwise it becomes a bit lopsided in theme :p

    My Recommended Picks

    Naruto (Ship and Original)
    Bleach
    Sword Art Online
Fullmetal Alchemist (and Brotherhood - same start, different stories)
Spirited Away - a kind of anime styled film, I loved it.

I agree with your picks, but I'd also add DBZ to that list.

Off the top of my head, I would recommend:
    1. Bakemonogatari
    2. Nisemonogatari
    3. Nekomonogatari
    4. To Love-Ru
    5. Motto To Love-Ru
    6. To Love-Ru Darkness
    7. Steins;Gate
    8. Code Geass
    9. Gintama
    10. Kore wa Zombie desu ka?
    11. Kore wa Zombie desu ka? Of the Dead
    12. Hyouka
    13. Fate/Stay Night (VN is 100x better, I hear)
    14. Fate/Zero
    15. Binbougami ga!
    16. Baccano!
    17. Durarara!!!
    18. Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!
    19. Clannad
    20. Angel Beats!
    21. Death Note
    22. Full Metal Panic! (first two seasons okay, third season sucks, third season OVA will make you laugh to death)
    23. Elfen Lied
    24. Welcome to the NHK!
    25. Ore no Imouta ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai
    26. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
    27. Yosuga no Sora
    28. Sayonara, Zetsubou-sensei
    Your list is too mainstream.

Brotherhood was apparently "too shounen". Haven't watched yet.

I don't have the time to go re-find every anime I watched, but simply that anime art started degrading heavily in 2006-2009, and since then it's just crap..

I'm not sure why you'd list Bleach or Naruto considering more than half of the shows are fillers, it's like listing One Piece or Dragon Ball. They're entertaining, but can you truly say it's the pinnacle of art work, story, etc?

One of my favorites off the top of my head is Berserk.

Guraton, your list is too shonen/romance affiliated, seinen with a serious plot is much better.

Entertainment is the entire point? Why would you care about whether they're the most incredible drawings in the world? I like Naruto and Bleach as the ideas and concepts behind them are so much more innovative than your average anime - which is why, then, they are shunned by those who think themselves anime "connoisseurs" and believe that there are better versions of them, elsewhere - the hipsters of manga.

Also, I agree with your points on Sword Art Online, but it is so relevant to this forum I thought that leaving it out would be sinful.

Best is subjective, everything in life can be found entertaining when there's nothing else, the point is to compare the value of the entertainment garnered from the source. I'm not saying they're unoriginal or there are better versions, simply that there are better sources of entertainment in the field of 'anime'.
For me that would be fluent and mature story lines, with good artwork and music scores, good voice acting, etc; essentially superb quality in all senses. Also, what point on Sword Art? I didn't say anything about it, I'm simply digressing my dislike of the artwork they use now, rather than hand-drawn it's all computer rendered which looks horrible in comparison, especially regarding detail.

    I agree with,
there hasn't been many good shows released in quite a while, they do excel over the average anime, but they don't excel to the point of earning the title 'best'.

I'll make a list of 10 animes for reference later.

The original Dragonball and Dragonball Z were great (pre-tornament/majin buu saga) but after that it went out of the window. Naruto was good for the first 100 episodes or so but then it went down hill in my eyes. The best ones to see are the ones not really shown in english but with english subs as they are the true style without any parts removed.

If that's the problem, then I agree - it probably should have been "favourite animes" or something along those lines.

"Best" is purely subjective. If you're adding films, add Ghost in the Shell and Akira to that list.

    Patlabor, Bubblegum Crisis.

Those series were the only ones worth admitting you watched. I believe that the viewing of anime has a direct link to such afflictions as virginitis and nofriendsforyouyoufuckingloseritis. But he, as Amethyst said, it's purely subjective and opinionated. No one has a correct answer here.

Off the top of my head here are some ones I really enjoy

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (as well as Kai and Rei season and OVA)
To Love-Ru, Motto To Love-Ru, TLR: Darkness
Black Cat (was actually originally made by the same Mangaka as To Love-Ru. Eve/Yami in TLR came from this as a carbon copy)
    Ghost in the Shell
Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: Solid State Society
    Fairy Tail
Lucky Star (make fun of me if you want but when you get the references it's hilarious)
    Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu
    Suzumiya Haruhi no Shoushitsu
Azumanga Daiou - for the lulz. Almost no storyline but I have a soft spot for it
    Seikai no Monshou
Seikai no Senki - these two are quite old and hard to find when I watched them ages ago.

I've been on a To Love-Ru rampage recently and it isn't even for the ecchi it's hyped over. It makes me laugh to death and I really hope they finish the Darkness story off properly in a new season some time.
