A little bit of business easily started with small amounts of cash

Hi guys, just thought i'd share a little bit of business i have been doing the last few years that can turn over a good profit if done correctly.

It's basically just merchanting of mobile phones and if anybody is familiar with Mazuma.com or Envirophone.com they will pick this up straight away.

These sites pay under the market value for Mobile phones and sell them to countries such as India and Pakistan that charge extortionate amounts for mobile technology. I became interested in this method whilst working as an Area manager for 3 Mobile in the UK and seeing a large rise in Box breakers (people buying handsets without Sim cards only to take them abroad and double their money on each handset)

I locally buy any phone £20 - £60 cheaper than the Mazuma price with the promise of payment in cash, similar to auto vehicle merchants the promise of cash in the hand often makes people part with their assets for much less than a market value.

The higher value the handset I.e Iphone 4s 32G the easier it is to knock down the price. For example an Ipone4s sells on mazuma for £260 and i would offer a customer £210, we negotiate on £230 and i have made £30 profit simply by putting the phone in an envelope and free posting it off.

With older phones it is somewhat harder to make high profit, For example an old samsung might only sell for £25 on the sites but customers will rarely sell their phone for that price.....

A decent way to do it, is to friend your local phone retail outlets and deliver leaflets into stores offering their upgrading customers cash for their old phones... Personally i will go into the stores every day and have them collect old phones and deliver the cash to the customers houses as they will leave their home address's or alternatively post it to them. This way an old handset worth £40 to me is EASILY parted from it's owner as they have a new phone and the promise of a crisp twenty pound note in their hand a few hours later.

There are plenty of things you can do with this business and plenty of advertising and marketing opportunities with social media in your local area.

Just a thought for anybody who wants it :)

In Belgium the phone stores offer like 10% of the value of a phone (the value it'd be at if you'd buy a new one from the store). They hand out this 10% in a discount, so when you buy a new Iphone at 260€, and turn in a samsung star (currently worth 200€), then you'd get the Iphone for 240€.

Reason I'm saying this is I like this idea, but I'm wondering if there aren't better ways to approach people than to go into the phone stores and compete with the storekeepers?

Ah perhaps that didn't come accross correctly my friend...

Ah, in the UK phone companies don't buy the phones off you. Perhaps o2 do, but non of the others. You cannot trade the phones in to the companies.
