    I think it's time to upgrade.

    Hey guys,

    OK, right I have decided I will finally splash out on a new desktop after 2 years using a old Toshiba laptop that runs so terribly slow and the shift keys don't even work on it. God knows how I still use this thing, its been pretty reliable tho as I dropped it a few times and also got it wet a few times.

    Anyway if anyone can recommend me a good site or even a custom build for someone in the UK. I don't have a set budget but I also am not loaded so no crazy builds. I do how ever want dual monitors and a pretty big ram to run hefty programs. A big hard drive isn't vital but it would be nice, a awesome graphics card would be nice also.

    Feel free to throw me some sites, will be buying next month if I successfully get this job that I applied for so I know I can afford to splash out a bit.

    Thanks.

    Could you post what sort of applications you would be using and what games you play (if any). Will help us help you get a computer with specs that fit your needs.

    Also a general price range would be helpful, even if its a large range.

    800 - 1500, average gaming. I don't game much but maybe the odd game on Steam or something. Applications such as video editing software and Photoshop.

    I think it's time to upgrade.

    If you're into photoshopping and video editting, you'd want a higher end CPU than would be typically placed in a $1500 build, because both of these uses are quite CPU taxing, and could benefit from a boost to this and to the RAM. Perhaps look at an i5-3570k core and overclock it yourself, and pair it with a GTX 650, and 8gb Ripjaws X RAM. Case/cooler depends on whether you want air or water cooling, which in turn depends on how much you want to OC it. Just throwing ideas around, you budget is quite broad, and I'm not sure whether you're willing to actually throw $1500 into a build.

    Depending on how srs your video editting is;
    i7 3770, k if you're OCing, if not very srs, 3570/k
    16gigs 1600 corsair/gskill etc, again if not srs vid editting drop to 8gs
    gtx660
    550-650w bronze+ rated psu, corsair, seasonic, silverstone, antec, etc
    any case
    asrock z77 extreme 4
    seagate/wd 1tb hdd
    prolly forgetting something but you get the idea, someone else will give you more specifics if you need. best idea for you to do is use general idea of a build(ie, mine) and look up reviews of the products you choose & benchmarks.
