How to really make your 3D text look awesome

Can someone please link me to a tutorial or maybe make a reply to this thread explaining how you turn normal ol cinema 4D text into those sexy signatures that Moonglare has and a lot of people here. Light beams, Fog, Smoke, Etc etc

 

listen, i'm just a beginning GFXer so I don't know as much as say moon glare, the real trick is some practice and experience, kinaestetic (sorry if I spelled it wrong :/) been doing this for YEARS, so start out i'd recommend just creating a few basic text pieces experimenting around with some effects and things, if you want to pm me I can tell you my Skype and we can run through some effects I know using that instant messager, other then that the trick is a whole lot of practice.

 

Heya buddy! Well basically when I started out a couple years back I didn't just start by doing C4D signatures. The mos important thing to take note of when you're beginning gfx is that to become good at it will take some time, it wont just happen overnight. You need to be willing to put forth the time and effort to get better. Anyways, as I was saying I first started just getting to know Photoshop and doing some photo manipulation and basic signatures. Then I moved into C4D. So what I recommend first is getting to know the software you're using look up some tutorials for that first, then move into doing actual graphics ^^

@Static Kin does have some time on me but I have also been doing graphics for years, not as in a shop but as in just making graphics and fooling around in PS to make stuff for my old clans and what not.

 

@moonglare i'm not comparing you two in any way both are equally good, just chose kina for the sake of an example, sorry if I caused any offence :/ and just out of curiosity at your post did you start with photoshop? :O

 

The effects the people here use on C4D sigs is nothing amazing. It's generally just soft brushing, or stocks on a layer setting, or something along those lines. It is really easy once you have the basic concept down. I still contend that C4D signatures take little to no skill. You don't have to worry about all of the things you do in a tag that make it look good. Using a huge 3D render of text takes care for 90% of the theory work for you, so all you have to do pretty much is pick good colors.

 

You haven't, I have been tutoring you last year on how to make Cinema4D signatures.

 

Really? This is an absolute shock because I thought Moonglare was self-tutored as well.

 

The thing that is hard to do with C4D sigs is innovate, that is the only difficult thing because most of everything has already been done. Recently the C4D sigs have been using the fractured text style that has been popular on YT layouts for ages.

 

Kin... what are you talking about. I only asked you a couple of questions when I first started using Cinema 4D and that was it. If I ever asked you anything after that it either regarded something in Photoshop or to ask your opinion on how something looked. By saying that you 'tutored' me is absurd and it implies that you basically spoon fed me through all of it which you didn't. I am all self taught. Also, I am not just talking about C4D graphics, I am talking about the broad view of everything that has to do with graphics. What you helped me out with was just a mere 1% out of what I taught myself.

OP, the "Light beams, Fog, Smoke, Etc etc" is done in Photoshop, not in c4d. C4d is used only for the text pretty much, the light beams, fog and smoke and whatever else you are thinking of are usually from stocks, as Nero said.

The best place to go for these is to go to youtube and make a search for graphics packs, or something like that. Here you can download a bulk of resources in one go that are generally decent.
