What's your opinions on Death Sentance, Prison?

The First thing i want to talk about is Prison in general inside: I know this will probably just sound dumb but, From what I've Seen on Reality Shows, Prison Break (Which i know is a Tv Show..) Beyond Scared Straight and so on. People Who are in possession of drugs and people who goes to jail that aren't really that big of a deal, They get locked up with people who have done murders and far worse things and if these people who are going to jail cause they got caught with drugs get like a 4-5 year sentance there is still a huge risk to die inside a prison because of all the gangs and people just attacking you to prove that they are "Tough". My Uncle which im very close to went into jail for possession of Cocaine Which he was smuggling from 1 place to another and the people who he bought from snitched on him and called the cops straight after so they could just track the License plate and get him, Which is Completely irrelevant, Let me get to the point. Since we are Swedish this all happend here, From the picture he sent me and from what he told me. The jail cell he was in had a comfortable bed, a Good Tv and if he wouldnt of got probation by now he would of been able to have a Computer with working internet. So the thing i am wondering is and this might sound pretty obvious to the people who are smarter than me which i think alot of you are haha, Why is there such a big Difference between prisons Depending on what Country their in?

So my first question is for the American Prisons and the other ones that are worse than swedish prison's for example. Do you guys have any Suggestions about ways to prevent so much killing in prison from happening? Maybe if somehow possible make a way to seperate the Inmates from eachother or something. Please Leave any Suggestions about this very curious since i couldn't really come up with much.


The Second Thing i wanted to talk about is Death Sentance: First thing about this is, if you get into one of these really Tough Jails and get like a 10 year Sentance, Wouldn't That almost be Conciderd Death in a way, and i don't mean by the fact that it takes 10 years of your life away. I mean the fact that I doubt you'll manage to be in jail 10 years without making any kind of enemies, getting into a fight or worse. From my own View about jails i would say that if i got into one of these Hard Prison's for let's say 7-10 years i'd probably be dead by then, back to the topic. One thing i think also is pretty bad but i think everyone will give me hate for or something is. For an example kill a person you get time in jail. Kill a vice President a President or something around that area thats very high placed would be Death Sentance. Isn't everyone suppose to be treated as equals? Sure President Run's a Whole Country but i dont see why killing a high placed person and just killing a regular person makes such a difference. Same is with The Prison guards or Police officers, If you kill a Police officer you also get longer time than when you just kill a normal person. I Honestly think this is bad given the thought If someone would kill one of my parents i would have in thought that the person could of gotten a longer sentance if they would have been working with the law or something like that.

Please Leave thoughts about everything, What you think about Prisons, What Should Be changed, What your thought's are on Death Sentances and feel free to correct me if i am wrong about any of this because i've got most of this from watchinglike reality tv shows about this and you all know you cant always trust television.

Please Do not make posts about how much grammatic error's there are in this i am well aware of that already. I'm Swedish and my english isn't that great really. I hope you'll be able to understand most of it though.

If you take a life, yours should be taken as well.

I don't see a reason why we should spend tax dollar money to keep people in for murder. Costs us millions, when we can just give them the death sentence, cause they deserve it.

Now before you go well what about those who didnt intend to kill. Thats where I would say the death penalty would be for those who kill in cold blood. Accidental is different.

 

I think only in cases when it's 100% proven that the 'murderer' did intend to and successfully kill someone.

Too many times people are convicted and proven innocent after they've been killed.

As soon as you kill someone you're agreeing to have your human rights stripped from you - what happens thereafter should be as harsh as possible.

 

Considering how overpopulated the world has become, we should just issue the death sentence no matter what if your going to give a life sentence anyway.

 

Well, if someone killed someone close to me I would sure as hell want them to have the death sentence. But in a way I would also want them to suffer 50 years in a prison so life without parole or the deaths sentence would be fine with me. I mean I would love to watch them die, but suffering their whole lives in prison would also fly with me.

 

Thats where one can argue whats worse.
Some inmates in the past have fought a sentence to death for a sentence to life in prison. For some the death sentence is an easier way out. So it's really a hard issue to decide upon. If only we could tell which was worse to the inmate and give them that sentence*.

 

Well, generally there are two sides to the argument. Many people have different judgments about the morality of the death sentence/whether it's right or wrong.

Religion:
Christianity, Judaism, and Islam I believe are all in mixed regards whether capital punishment should be favored under some circumstances [premeditated murder]. Correct me If I'm wrong, but the old testament sanctions capital punishment while new testament negates the punishment and only deals with the punishment in very serious crimes. In Islam, sharia law states a man should be punished and or stoned to death when a man commits a very serious crime [adultery, murder]. Still not sure for Judaism.

Economics:
In the United States, I read somewhere that one execution ranges from $64,000 to $77,000. Plus also the death penalty cases are usually very expensive. The death penalty in the United States is much more expensive than life without parole as well because the law requires a long and complex judicial process for capital cases [process of ensuring if guilty or not]. The costs of these executions cost roughly about a half a million dollars more than they would cost for life in prison without parole.

With all that said, In my opinon, I believe capital punishment is immoral in principle and think its an unfair and a very discriminatory practice. In a civilized society, we reject the principle of literally killing a human being and in this case, doing to criminals what they did to their victims. I think its barbaric and a very cruel punishment to take someones life.

 

The thing i think about most which also happends to relate to Prison break is, The People Who get Death Sentance for something they didn't do and the people who charged them with death sentance later after the inmate's Death finds out that they are innocent like you said rwmrs2 and i don't just mean for Death sentance now i mean the people who are in for maybe like 15 years and then the judges finds out that they were innocent the whole time, That's 15 years of your life you wont be able to get back. That's kind of the thought that struggles me the most. I wish there was a way to just find.

 

I find it ridiculous that death penalty cases cost so much money. I had no idea untill I did a little research. IMO its a total waste of money. I thought it was just a thing a judge sentences you and you get taken away and have the lethal injection procedure.

I think they need to redo the whole rule about how much a person facing a death sentence is entitled to from all the OBVIOUS proof that they commited that crime. You wouldn't be facing a death sentence lightly unless there was some evidence against you, in most cases.

 

I think the death sentence is the only fair way to punish certain crimes, I don't mean holding up corner stores, I mean murder, and death sentences should only be made after a very thorough trial, and people who plead insanity for murders should definitely get death sentence, they did what they did, and half the time they only say that to stay out of prison, they go see a psychiatrist and are out in a few years, free to kill more.

 

My standpoint is rather simple.

A life for a life.
You torture someone, you get tortured.
You steal - You loose your items.

Ect..

 

I think is more that just an eye for an eye, if you steal it isnt enough to return what you took. You need a punishment. Death penalty should be in extreme cases. Also the system in the countries varies depending on how the goverment manages this issue. In my country there is neither death sentence or life sentence because of "conflicts" with the constitution. And also here prisons are overpopulated so there are many people getting on the streets for varios crimes
