The deletion of the "Do not Suggest" list.

Sythe.org is obviously making strides to grow right now. I do not see why we would discourage anyone from expressing their ideas because it's on a list. Some ideas are rather good, can get discussion, and are even clever elaborations on what you would call "do not suggest ideas" (MohtasaUnique's in-site chat suggestion for example) and are locked.

These threads will die if they are dumb ideas. If we find they are being uselessly spammed we can lock them. And while I wholeheartedly agree with many things on the DNS list I do not see how it is contributing to the well-being the site in any way whatsoever.

If accepted it could always come back if things got bad, mind you. I would think that some things are common sense though anyway.

It really stunts Sythe's growth. If people can back up their ideas and explain their reasoning, it will only improve Sythe as a whole. Just hear the users out and it will lead to a better place.

 

I agree with the removal of the DNS list. There are some things that are on there as suggestions due to being impractical or whatnot, but if a user wants to take their own time and help contribute to their creation, they should be allowed to. As you said, if any issues arise, it can easily be re-instated, and the removal would allow simple DNS ideas to be elaborated on and possibly made viable.

 

Full support, I just had to have a suggestion unlocked because one of the mods got confused on what I was suggesting and thought it was on the DNS list. It was my fault for deleting the OP, but still, having the DNS is a real pain Lol

 

I don't support removing it, I support putting a poll to which suggestions to remove from the list though. Some are truly a waste of time to debate over and over again with every new member who re-suggests the idea.

 

I was going to make a "meet in the middle" section of my post but decided to leave it out. I think this would work if we only left the very obvious.

 

I don't want the same filth showing up again and again. But I added that last time a thread was made about this.

This is exactly what I was about to say. Some on the list really should remain on the list, the obvious ones that are just impossibly done.

 

The list needs to be trimmed, not deleted. There are some suggestions that will just never happen

 

There are some things on there that don't make sense and are explained away by 'won't ever happen' or 'is on the DNS list'. I support this.

 

For the things that remain on the DNS list after we prune it, I feel the reasoning for denying them needs to be improved to briefly touch on a few points as to why it is a bad suggestion/wouldn't work instead of the current one line.

Not the whole list but some I agree should be removed, because sometimes people clearly suggest the dumbest things.

Some people post bad suggestions over and over.

Perhaps you could turn the "DO NOT suggest" into "TRY NOT TO suggest". So it's more of a guide line than a rule.

 

I'm up for that, but which do you think is the very obvious? I haven't looked through them yet, I'll post a list of the suggestions I think we should keep and we can compare shit 'n shit

Shorten the list to these imo. Most are for absolute obvious reasons: legal issues, easily exploited, or just plain never going to happen.

 

Maybe someone can add a one-line explanation beside each one in the list itself, it would prevent people from asking in the future why these are specifically disallowed

 

Better Server - Who knows better about sythe's server than the man who owned sythe for 8 years?
Application for staff - Staff is chosen at the discretion of those delegated the task by Sythe, applications are a waste of time when the best way to apply for mod is to show the current staff in charge of hiring how great you are within the community.
Arcade - Easily exploited
Colored names for non-staff - Colored names are to diversify staff so that they are easily found by all new members. If we gave color to donors for example, users might think that a donor could help with with an urgent staff-only issue
More moderators - rushing the mod selecting process will give poor results, and if we're in desperate need for more mods, you can bet your ass the current staff is feeling the pressure and that we're already working to find replacements
Porn Section - Legal issues
Staff powers for non-staff - Staff powers are the given with the highest degree of trust, making it a donor perk with the percent of people who only donate for more trust to scam larger would be an abomination. Of course, staff has scammed before, but it's a rare occasion.
Warez Section - Legal issues

 

I really like that. It also aids in giving people general guidelines in what kinds of ideas not to suggest and is easier to read.
